We stayed here for 3 nights in late August during the annual barrel races and contrada festivities. The town was amazing and served as a great base for exploring the rest of tuscany. The hotel was a perfect location and had the best views of our entire Italy trip (including Positano). Cinzia and Luca were extremely helpful and very kind and made us feel like we were their personal houseguests - they give you the 'insiders' view on what to do in the city. The bar connected to the hotel is very relaxing and a great place for a drink and appetizers - never was too busy or loud. The hotel has a parking spot for your car, which is extremely helpful and useful if you plan to be leaving the city walls. The free breakfast is great if that is important to you...we found it to be really convenient. The wine tour associated with Cinzia's family was very enjoyable and we loved the wine tasting with the owner of the winery (her father I believe?). The free computer was great for quickly checking email and was very convenient for us. The only con is that the sun gets very bright in the mornings but I guess that comes with the great views from both sides, plus they give you the blindfold to wear if you want to fix for that. This is why I said sleep quality was 'average' - but it really was no different than the more expensive hotels we stayed in during our trip so that shouldn't be a huge deal.

So in summary - if you are deciding between this hotel and another one, you definitely will not be disapppointed by choosing this one. I think it is worth the extra money if that is part of your decision. Also, the week during the barrel races would be hard to replicate for a more authentic italian experience...we went to dinner at a contrada and were probably the only foreigners there.

Montepulciano a jewel of Tuscany and Locanda San Francesco a charming hotel with only 4 comfortable rooms, excellent service, free wi-fi and all the attention of the owners Cinzia and Luca. We recomend it......

This place is the most wonderful place in all of tuscany. Attention to detail is second to none. your hosts Cinzia and Luca are the most hospitable people we have ever met. Its all the extras - the hermes toiletries - the wines - the atmosphere - its everything a honeymoon couple could wish for. a big thank you cinzia - Patrick and Suzanne from Ireland we stayed in October - amazing amazing - breakfast fab - the jazz fab, excellent - lets not tell too many people and keep this place for only people in the know.

My wife and I, along with several family members, recenly spent a week at La Locanda and we were delighted to have stayed at this B&B. Cinzia and Luca are very acomodating innkeepers and went out of their way to make our stay memorable. The entire staff at La Locanda also made us feel at home. Montepulciano is an excellent location from which to take day trips to the many beautiful towns in Tuscany and we did just that.
The accomodations are very comfortable with each of the 4 rooms being different and unique. The views are spectacular from the rooms and La Locanda is located at a point in Montepulciano where the sunrises and sunsets are beautiful.
