“Medievil meets fairytale in this rustic elegant farmhouse with warm, friendly service.”
What can I say about the most enchanting part of our 2 week jaunt in Italy...Hotel Lupaia made it on Conde Nasts list for a reason. After following their explicit directions (Google maps or navigation systems will not get you here- download their pdf map off of the website) we were led down a winding dirt road in the middle of vineyards and olive groves to this restored farmhouse - made of brick and stone - to the rustic elegance of Hotel Lupaia.
Their website gives accurate photos and feel of what you will get in reality. Mateo came to greet us and Kathy- the manager - Canadian / Italian- couldn't have been more helpful in her recommendations and organizational skills.
I loved this place and did not want to leave!
Rooms each had a theme (more a color scheme theme). We had Turkos (which had a turkish steam inside the shower- so you could take a steam after showering!) and one other room- the name escapes me...but the DESIGN and care of every little corner was so well thought out. Whimsy fabrics of sheer, organic materials covering the wall sconces, antique bedding with comfy mattress and warm linens and blankets, plush towels and even hooded robes and flip flops provided, italian tiled floors and walls...amazing bath products- Erbario Toscano- all olive oil based and made in Tuscany.
The main gathering area - where the kitchen was (amazing hearth of a kitchen- rustic farmhouse style) is where we had breakfast- homemade cookies, jams, breads, meats, plenty of frothy cappuccino and warm service. The outdoor dining area was also quite charming and thoughtfully designed. They also had complimentary house laptop to access the internet which was extremely helpful. As well satellite TV in room in case you need to connect with reality : ) or watch a movie at night.
The pool area was out of a fairytale - they also had an area with 2 hammocks to relax and every chair was placed with the design for guests to have magnificent views of the Tuscan countryside and of Montepulciano off in the distance.
We loved the kitties and dogs - though at first my Mom was anxious about that..no worries at all - all are so friendly.
They even have 2 horses and a donkey out back.
This was one of the most memorable places I have ever stayed.
You absolutely must have a car as it is pretty isolated (in the best of ways).
Some of the day trips we took were to Assisi (an hour and 1/2 each way), Montepulciano, Wine tasting at Poliziano Vineyards with lunch, and dinner each night in Montefollicino (you must go to 13 Gobbies for the best pasta and romano cheese EVER..and their 7 Euro bottle of house wine- delish!)
Oh Hotel Lupaia..we miss you!! I went with my mom, my sister and our friend..which was lovely..but it is also so so romantic here..highly recommend it for a romantic special occasion.
