We stayed here for 3 nights on a coach trip from Venice to Rome. The dining room, lobby and staircase/corridor areas were very well decorated, with much marble.
Spotlessly clean throughout, we had a good size twin room and large bathroom with shower. Comfy beds, good heating and a quiet location, 15 minutes walk uphill from the town. Montecatini is 45-60 minutes drive from Florence, Pisa or Lucca, with a railway station serving all these plus Rome.
We hardly watch telly but with floods, economic turmoil, and street protests in Italy, we tried to follow the news and a large flat screen TV at eye level with 25 channels including CNN was useful.
Breakfasts had a good choice of cereals, yoghurt, cake, cheeses, cooked meats and freshly scrambled eggs. Dinners had smart waiter service and a table d'hote choice of 2 starters and mains, plus dessert. Modest portions but excellently cooked and presented. Table wines at 11 euros a bottle, with better whites, reds & roses at 18-20 euros were better value than a glass at 5 euros. 33cl beer bottles were 5 euros also.
