“Pool, A/C, and short commute to Florence or Lucca”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 November 2011

August + Tuscany = hot & humid! The only search requirements we had were A/C and pool. We were well rewarded with Hotel Torretta. Aside from the A/C and wonderful pool, the family run establishment was welcoming, the rooms immaculate, and the breakfast excellent. Our original purpose for staying here was the central location; however, under the guidance of the hotel management we quickly realized the hidden gem that we had stumbled upon! The Montecatini area is worth a week to 10 days of exploration ~ from the wonderful mountaintop villages of Marianni and Montecatini Alta, to the ancient walled city of Lucca. The hotel management provided tips for sightseeing and the best methods to get from point A to point B. We can't wait to return!

“Good Hotel”

Good hotel about 20mins walk out of town. Nice outlook. We found the breakfasts to be good and the evening meals to be excellent compared to others that we had a similar hotels. The staff are good although the fellow at reception can be a bit grumpy and off-hand. We would stay here again.

“A great centre for exploring Tuscany”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2011

Our stay was for 5 days with an organised group who were in Tuscany for wine tasting and general tourism. Our arrival process was well organised by the hotel and we were in the rooms within 10 minutes. The lift was the limiting factor as only 4 people could get in at a time. Stairs were available of course and you could have your luggage delivered a little later.

The rooms were spacious and clean with large Kingsize plus beds. Air conditioning, a mini bar, TV and safe were provided. There were no tea or coffee making facilities in the rooms. The TV received BBC world programmes.

We were half board in the hotel and I can recommend this option for others. Breakfast was Continental with fresh fruit, cold meats, bread, boil your own eggs, cereals, yoghurts, tea, coffee, etc. Dinner in the evening was a feast every day. Five courses over about 1 1/2 to two hours consisted of soup, a pasta course, help yourself salad, main course and desert. The food was excellend and extremely tasty. A good range wine was also available.

The hotel has a swimming pool that was used daily and kept very presentable. It was a nice place to sit by after dinner and allowed smokers to relax with a drink and chat. A bar was available until late into the evening. I was normally in bed by 1100 so didn't get to see if it stayed open later than that.

For touring, the hotel is close to the fernicula railway that takes you up to the beautiful village of Montecatini Alto. It is also easy to walk down through the park into the main town and spas of Montecatini Terme. It is a good uphill walk from the town on the way back.

The railway station at Montecatini Terme has regular trains at reasonable prices. We went into Florence for the day. The journey took just over an hour and was not too expensive at all.

The Euro exchange rate made food and drink a little expensive but that probably down to UK keeping the value of the pound low to improve exports.

Room Tip: The lift can get conjested at times. Being close to the ground floor could save you some time.

“Gluten free heaven!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2011

We have just returned from a five night stay at this delightful hotel. My husband has coeliac disease, and also a life-long aversion to fish and seafood of any kind, caused by a bad experience when in hospital as a child. So eating out in Italy is something of a challenge - but not for the Hotel Torretta. They came up with everything from gluten free cereals at breakfast to GF pasta, specially prepared soups, main courses and desserts in the evenings. All the food was freshly cooked and made a huge difference to our enjoyment of the holiday, as my husband was able to eat everything that was put in front of him without worrying that it may contain gluten (or fish!). Overall the hotel is lovely, the staff take a real pride in their work and nothing is too much trouble. So thank you again Hotel Torretta for a wonderful holiday, we hope to be back before too long!

“Most welcoming staff ever”

We were here for only one night, but must say that the staff at this hotel is the nicest we've ever encountered. They made us feel welcome immediately and even went out of their way to help us when we were looking for another dowtown hotel where some friends were staying. Our room was large and perfectly adequate, although a bit dated, with a small balcony overlooking the pool area. The hotel has lovely, cozy areas where one could curl up to read a book, have a glass of wine, or play cards. Breakfast was not lavish, but had every food group one would need. The coffee (capuccino, caffe latte) that they made at the bar was wonderful. We each had two!
Parking was convenient, and, although the hotel is a five minute walk to the downtown area and facing a main road, we heard no noise whatsoever at night. In fact, while strolling downtown we realized how noisy it would have been had we stayed closer to that area. The hotel is also within easy walking distance of the funiculare, which we took to Montecatini Alto to have dinner and admire a spectacular view of the valley below.
