When I came to Milano-Marittima for a Category 1 senior tennis tournament, the hotels associated with the tournament were in the 75-200 euro/day range, more than I wanted to pay. I looked around and finally at a Tabac, the owner told me to try the Hotel Consul - he said it was small but good and less expensive. He was right on both counts. The normal rate is 30 euros (with breakfast) or 46 euros (with full board: breakfast, lunch anbd dinner). Full board for 16 euros/day - is an outstanding value! And, it turned out that the meals were delicious - all home-cooked by Franco Foutana, the wife of the family. To give a comparison, I ate the first evening out - a pasta dish with salad and a glass of wine - for 21 euros. The meals given at the Hotel Consul include separate courses: salad buffet; choice of pasta; meat or fish; and a choice of dessert. Winde is not included - Hotel guests bring their own bottle of wine which is kept at your assigned table. The Hotel Consul sold me a bottle good local red wine for 9 euros, considerably less than the store price. At meals, the husband, Rossano Ghirardini, and daughter, Sylvia Ghirardini,, took meal orders, and served each table promptly and graciously.
The Hotel Consul is located four short blocks from the Tennis Club Mare e Pineta, where the Adriatic Senior Championships were being held, and two blocks from the Adriatic. The Hotel Consul has a bar with a TV and comfortable sofas and chairs on the entrance level, and an outside patio. Flowers are in abundance throughout the entrance level. The Hotel is clean with daily maid service for guests.
The Hotel Consul offers free Wi-Fi - the router occasionally needed to be reset, but it was always done so promptly on request. I used my laptop extensively in my room during my 8-day stay.
My room on the 3rd floor did not have a view of the sea,, but the beach is just two blocks away! The rooms had adequate closet space and hangars, TV, and a balcony (with a clothesline - convenient for me, for whom, like for many tennis players, doing laundry after each match is part of the routnine. The beds - in my room - were twin beds, not queen-sized. But, I was traveling alone, and I suspect that the istuation may be different for couples or families.
In all, I don't think one could do better - a small, family hotel, outstanding value, delicious food, comfortable and a friendly family as hosts. Highly recommended!
