This hotel was booked as a present for us and we stayed here for three nights in January. I was dreading the place being cold,as outside temps were in minus figures, but it was pleasantly warm. I would probably only recommend this hotel for a short stay - most guests seem to be on their way to and from the cruise ships and coach tours.
It is part of the Comfort Hotels chain, and has quite a corporate image, a bit bland, modern and functional, with a bare reception area. Staff were very pleasant and helpful with check in and buying train/vaporetto tickets, and with getting us extra pillows.
Our room was ideally placed on the 5th floor with a side facing window, we got a view of car park and the docks, with a window that opened right up (Minus a safety point!)
Adequate in size, nice modern furnishings a huge bed (2 large singles pushed together), mattresses and pillows a tad on the firm side but quite comfy. Shower was a walk-in one - could have put a bath in that space which would have been nice after a very cold day out! But all worked well. Plenty of towels, toiletries etc. and the plus of a refrigerator so we could store milk and food from the large supermarket next door. No tea/ coffee making facilities, but that is the norm in Italy.
The walls and doors were thick enough to have a quiet room with no constant footsteps above or toilets flushing etc. The room was kept very clean.
We had a decent breakfast with choices of ham, cheese, yoghurt, cereals, toast, rolls, croissants, "scrambled" egg, streaky bacon, orange juice, tea and coffee. If you can't find something from that lot you must be very picky!
Where the hotel fell down seriously was their evening restaurant. It is quite a hike to the centre of Mestre where most of the restaurants and bars are, and having been walking around all day and it being very cold outside,we decided to eat "in" one night. What a mistake! There was no "ambient" lighting, leaving it with no atmosphere, rather like a canteen. There was a set menu of 3 courses for 21 Euro that we didn't have - we saw several people eating it - one whole course was a bowl of lettuce, tomatoes, carrot and cucumber as far as we could tell!
My pork was okay, but my partner ordered grilled chicken and he got exactly that - an overcooked, dry slab of chicken with no seasoning, let alone any kind of sauce to help it down ,with a few measly "roast" potatoes. Two starters, two main courses and two drinks set us back an incredible 56 Euros.
As most people have already said, the hotel is very convenient for getting into Venice City - the number 4L bus stops opposite the Hotel every 10 mins or so, and only takes 10 mins or so to get to the bus station the other end. 2.60 euro a round trip, validate your ticket at the machine on the bus. A combined bus and vaporetto ticket allowing you unlimited travel costs 13 euro for 12 hours or 18 for 24 hours. Pretty reasonable.
Venice itself is beautiful - enough said - and its worth finding bars off the beaten track that will be cheaper for drinks and free to use their facilities - public loos cost 1.50 euro and there aren't many of them! (Tip - go to the railway station one, it's only 80 cents!) Shopping? If you are into (expensive) shoes, handbags, jewelry and glass ornaments you will be in shopping heaven, though most places seem to sell exactly the same stuff.
Room Tip: Go for one at the back or side of building.
