I spent one night there by complete chance, and found a very welcoming place, an incredible location on the cliffs, and very amiable staff.
The hotel is actually a small main building, and a series of bungalows scattered on the cliffs, very well integrated in the landscape. Rooms are simple but clean and spatious. What you see around you is just stunning beauty. Prices are very reasonable for this quality.
The owner is a hands-on guy, who wants to keep this hotel small, family oriented and not directed towards mass tourism. He seemed to be truly concerned with how his hotel, and tourism in general, can be managed in a way that does not perturb the natural beauty and the soul of the place. I had a couple of very interesting conversations with him about Apulian cousine, local fish, sustainability....
He really did not strike me a s a greedy person, rather someone with a set of values that is very rarely found in this business.
I now own a place in Mattinata, yet I stop by this hotel at times, for a drink on the terrace with a stunning view on the sea, a dinner, or a tennis game after a snack at the bar.
I love this region, its food, its shy beauty, and in the few weeks per year I spend here I strive to give some sort of contribution, volunteering to clean beaches, to do some work in the national park etc.....I was extremely happy to find this place, and hope that tourism developments will follow this example.
So, giving a very positive review here. The only detail that I´d like to mention: this is not a place for a family who would just like a large, sandy beach, 20 meters from your hotel room, and tourist shopping and nightlife. Cliffs, and a marvellous set of (pebble) beaches are easily reachable from the hotel. If you are looking for packed, sandy beaches, nightlife etc, go further north along the coast.
But otherwise I find it difficult to imagine that this place can disappoint.
