My new husband and I stayed at Villa Scapone half way through our honeymoon, in May 2011. It was perfect. We had spent the first part of our honeymoon seeing a lot of lovely sites, but Villa Scapone was the ideal place to stop, rest and rejuvinate.
Three main things are stand-outs at Villa Scapone: the staff, the food and the rooms / location. The staff were wonderful. They were incredibly friendly and welcoming, without being intrusive, and nothing was too much difficulty... including silver service lunch by the pool! The concierge, Michaele, in particular was brilliant, making a particular effort to ensure that everything was perfect for us. Including finding us a stunning balcony seat and taking care of a 4 course meal (which was incredible), notwithstanding 5 communions had run overtime and were continuing around him!
I had heard that food in Puglia was exception, and this was certainly the case at Villa Scapone. The 4 course meals was just the beginning. The seafood is very tasty and fresh, with the lasagnette a dish that we have remembered and talked about throughout the trip and since returning home. The breakfasts were a buffett with great variety, and lunch by the pool was very indulgent.
Finally, the location and rooms are brilliant. Michaele gave us the "penthouse" (Room 10), up the top of some stairs, which had incredible views of the sea, cliffs and hotel pool from our huge balcony (complete with double-person hammock, day beds, and tables and chairs). I took full advantage of the bath and we spent most days by (and in!) the pool, looking out over the ocean. I am informed that the Villa is also currently building a full service Day Spa, which would add to the perfection! (Don't worry, there were no noisy building works to content with.) The Villa is a short drive from a pretty beach, but you can also swim off the rocks at the base of the hotel, and the stairs to get there are a very good way to burn off some of that yummy food which is impossible to resist!
While we spent our days relaxing and unwinding, there seems to be quite a bit to do along the coast as well. We did pop into Vieste, which was a lovely town, although I was happy to be staying somewhere quiet at that stage of our trip! There are also beaches and other towns nearby.
All in all, Villa Scapone was wonderful... so wonderful that we arrived booked to stay 2 nights and ended up staying 4 nights, it was too good to leave! We would most certainly go back and recommend it to others.
