“What a location!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2011

Had stayed in this hotel some years ago and enjoyed our visit then. Booked this on the spur of the moment with Ryanair flying to Bergamo. Lorenzo arranged the transfers to and from Bergamo, so stress free from airport to Malcesine and back. We weren't disappointed - we would say the hotel was better than we remembered on our last visit. The weather was hot, (good for swimming in the lake) especially at night which meant the veranda windows had to be left open, so not so good for noise at night. We enjoyed the swimming pool and grounds and the walk into town along the lake was a joy. Lorenzo and his family were delightful. We would definitely go back to this hotel again.

“welcoming hotel staff”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 September 2010

We were allocated this hotel on arrival through Inghams a Taste of Italy so we were not expecting luxury for the price we paid. However we were welcomed warmly and the plus side was a pool in nice gardens, a safe and a balcony with lake and mountain view. The road noise however was a downside continuing until late at night, the breakfasts were very basic with no fruit or yoghurts provided. As we booked half board we had our evening meal at the nearby Cristallo Hotel. The Hotel was very clean though many areas needed updating. The owners were very helpful and friendly . The walk into Malcesine took approx.20 mins with a steep path down to the beautiful lakeside walk
Altogether reasonable for the price.

“Not what we expected from the reviews.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 August 2010

Having read the reviews we were encouraged to book this hotel on the basis that it was clean, tidy and much improved on previous ownership. However, we were disappointed with the hotel's location on the main road into Malcesine, which made sleeping very difficult because of the heavy traffic which continued well into the night (even the use of ear plugs didn't help). Our balcony view was of the car park and road, trees beyond obscuring lake and mountains.

The room itself was quite shabby and didn't look to have had any updating in the past few years: the carpet was old; the glass pane in the french window rattled; the walls were scuffed; the toilet cistern ran continuously and the extractor fan in the bathroom was very noisy. You could also hear people using the toilet in the adjacent rooms a bit too clearly. Breakfast was adequate but basic with limited choice.

The place was essentially clean, and the manager did seem helpful and did offer to move us to the back of the hotel in a few days, but we just didn't like it there. Our impression from the reviews did not reflect the reality, which unfortunately spoilt our stay and we wanted to address that here for others. We may be more intolerant of noise than average, but we're not overly fussy, and of many hotels visited in several years this was the most disappointing.

“A great little hotel.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 June 2010

This is a wonderful little 2 star hotel. Ignore all the old reviews as this lovely place is under new family control. Room comfortable and spotlessly clean; towels changed every day. Internet access free; safety deposit box in room free. You'd have to pay extra for both of these in a 4 star hotel. The staff were so helpful and friendly with an excellent command of English. Even Italy's early exit from the soccer World Cup did not affect their good humour.
There was all you could ask for in a continental breakfast. If you want a full English cooked breakfast this is not for you.
A most pleasant clean swimming pool and a sunny patio on which to sit a relax, read or simply enjoy a quarto litro of vino rosso for only €2.
We certainly hope to make an early return.

“Great value,great people,great to relax”

Have stayed at this hotel many times in the past 12 yrs,but found it very distressing to see the way it had deteriorated a couple of years ago,but read the more recent reports via trip advisor and decided to go back for the first time in 4yrs.What a difference.Arrived late at night after 10 hr delay at airport, but received a lovely welcome, hotel very clean nice fresh linen and towels. After a good nights sleep met all the family, Lorenzo,Laura.Luigi and Sirmiona at breakfast and found them all very friendly and helpful with good english. My wife had a health problem whilst there & Laura/Luigi ran us to the local hospital late one evening where Laura's translation skills were vital to her wellbeing-nothing to much trouble
T he hotel itself may only be 2 star but 5 star in friendlyness and helpfullness
The garden/pool is great to relax around and the hotel parking is a real plus for anyone travelling by car as parking in town is expensive.A lovely stroll into town for most part by the lakeside is beautiful and a new innovation of the local tourist bus is great if feeling a little weary(1 euro per trip)Our transfer to/from airport was arranged in advance by Lorenzo and was excellent(15 euro pp per transfer)
Overall a 2 star hotel, very friendly very clean and good to relax around after a busy day.
