“Another great holiday spent in Malcesine.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2011

This was our 5th stay in the "Hotel Augusta" and once again it was a wonderful week,we booked direct with the hotel as we have done previously and found the Bendetti family very accomodating and extremely helpful, we booked the flight to Verona with Ryanair had an excellent flight arriving on time to find our minibus driver waiting to transfer us to Malcesine, the only downside to this was the driver didn't speak english and we were kept waiting an hour because somebody didn;t turn up, when we arrrived at the hotel we were told the driver had been phoning to say that we hadn't got off the plane!!!!

We travelled with 2 friends who had never been to Lake Garda before and they were lost for words when we arrived with the spectacular views from our balconies across the lake the mountains and the wonderful setting of the hotel, needless to say they will be returning again.

The rooms we had were adjoining and very comfortable, clean and the bathroom was well equipped and clean towels every day. The breakfast was continental but plenty of it even if you didn't come down to breakfast until late.

We had some excellent meals at different restaurants but especially at "Pedro's" once again he really made you welcome as always the food was 1st class.

After reading previous comments about the hotel i would just like to say that our 1st stay at the "Augusta" which we booked through Thomson's we were in a room without a balcony which was quite depressing but the next time we paid extra to have a balcony which was well worth the money and now everytime we request a balcony and this time we had rooms 36 and 37 and it was by far the best ever.

All we can say is "cannot wait to return to Malcesine and hotel Agusta" it is our idea of heaven.

Just a note you wouldn't need to take an alarm clock with you as the bell at the castle rings every hour and chimes once on the half hour then a minute later the church bells do the same.

Room Tip: Pay extra for a balcony well worth it so you can spend time watching the world go by.

“Good base for the North of Lake Garda”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 July 2011

Stayed here for 2 weeks in July and agree with a lot of the comment from previous reviews. The hotel is very comfortable but we travelled with Crystal Holidays (Thomsons) which meant we got a room with no balcony. The stay would have been improved if we had a better view or balcony. The rooms to the front means if it is warm at night you need to choose between paying 6 euros for air conditioning per night or sleeping with the windows open and be woken by the traffic around 7 am. The hotel has good facilities compared with others nearby with a good size pool, small gym and outdoor jacuzzi. The garden around the pool also has a slide/climbing frame/swing for kids and a skittle lane and table tennis table.
The cable car is right outside your hotel so easy to get to early which is a must in high season with waits up to 90 mins if you go later on. The tourist bus stops outside which, for 1 euro, will take you on a short tour of the area and useful for getting to some of the restaurants and beaches outside of the resort.
Malcesine has great ferry links to the other resorts in the north of the lake, Limone/Riva and Torbole and bus links to the East of Garda and Verona. All of these are within a 10 minute walk of the hotel.
Martin who runs the hotel is very helpful and informative on where to eat and ideas for what to do. He also is a font of knowledge on the weather you can expect. The staff all try to be helpful and make sure you enjoy your stay. The hotel is mainly used by German couples and families and so the amount of English spoken is limited but the staff do try their best.
Breakfasts are continental with fruit, cereal, meat, cheese etc. They try to vary the fruit, cheese and cakes each day but if you are there a fortnight it does become repetitive.
I would love to go back to the hotel but would look to book direct to get a choice of rooms. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

“A great stay at the Augusta”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 July 2011

This was our third visit to Malcesine and we were looking for an hotel on a bed & breakfast basis to enable us to try all the local restaurants on an evening. We managed to get a good deal on the Augusta by booking about 3 weeks beforehand, via Thomson.

We had previously stayed in the Catullo & Meridiana, both of which are only a few hundred yards away so we knew the locality reasonably well.

We can confirm that the Augusta is an excellent base for a holiday, very clean, friendly & efficient staff & with good facilities for a 3 star hotel. It’s close by the cable car and a five minute walk to the old town so handy for the castle & the ferry port.

We had one of the basic rooms - on the premise that we wouldn’t be spending much time in it. It was certainly good value for money, and had sufficient space for our purpose. Yes, it would have been nice to have a balcony & a lake view, but these things always come at a price.

There was some road noise from about 7am as the resort came to life, but this didn’t bother us as we like to get up early on holiday. Lake facing rooms would we think be quieter.

Breakfasts were plentiful, and available up until 10am for those that like a later start to their day. Lots of cereals, muesli, a different fruit every day, nice hams and cheeses with boiled eggs and some really nice cake and beautiful breads. However, if you are looking for a traditional British fried eggs & black pudding etc- remember this is Italy! Interestingly marmalade has now appeared amongst the jams & honeys, and there is a toaster.

The garden is spacious and peaceful (occasionally a bit of noise from the children’s holiday centre next door) and the pool & jacuzzi very refreshing , paticularly after a day's sightseeing. We were invited to enjoy complimentary watermelon by the pool on a hot afternoon. Soft & alcoholic drinks are available from the bar along with sandwiches & ice creams.

The Benedetti family have a lovely hotel with a relaxed atmosphere, highly recommended.

Room Tip: Rooms with balcony & lake views obviously cost more , try negiotiating a change of room for the...

“Everything you want for a B&B !”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 May 2011

I can't add much to what has already been said, except to give a up-to-date comment on this lovely little hotel as we were there last week (14-21 May 2011) and most of the other reviews are quite old now.
It is still very clean, and well kept. The staff are friendly and the buffet breakfasts, which mainly cater for the mostly Germans who were there was very nice. Lots of jams and honeys, but no Marmalade for us Brits, I had read this before on here so took so little single servings with me from a previous cruise holiday and used them. For German breakfast plenty of meats, cheese, cakes, tomatoes etc, also on offer yogards in large jugs, cereals and fresh crusty bread and rolls. Juice and coffee from a machine which was Ok, especially the coffee, with even hot milk available to keep coffee nice and hot. You coukld eat out on the balcony on sunny mornings and the room was open till 10am which was nice for lie-ins. The room we had in the yellow building had a lake side view although I have since found out Brits only get mountain view rooms with TA'S from the UK, the Germans who drive over the border and pay direct get lake view rooms. The only way we can have them in the UK is to book direct. The room we had was very large and clean with a large marble en-suite with large shower, bidet, toilet and sink. It was kept immaculate by the room maid. A bottle of red wine was available to but for just 6e (£5.50 approx) As an offer on the table in room, we had one bottle and it was very nice for relaxing on the balcony with. If you are looking for b&b as like us, you want to dine out every night in town I thoroughly recommend this 3 * hotel. We usually stay 4/5* or cruise, but this hotel was perfect for what we wanted and we had no complaints, only wish tea and coffee was available in the rooms/ and marmalade at breakfast, but suppose thats a British thing? Free internet access was very much appreciated using their computer in the bar.

“ideally situated to see the Garda Lake and Monte Baldo Mountain, close to the town centre restaurants and port.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 September 2010

The Hotel Augusta is situated next to the cable car base station that takes you to the top of Monte Baldo which is popular with walkers, mountain bikers, those that just want to explore and for the more adventurous those that wish to hang glide. The cable car operates silently and is of recent build climbing some 1650 metres. The second stage cable car rotates through 360 degrees for all to see the panoramic view.
The hotel is a short walk from the town centre with its many restaurants, shops, and the port where you can catch a boat destined for the other Lake Garda towns. Fish from Lake features on many menus but a full variety of Italian and continental food is available at many price levels.
The Hotel Augusta is a clean well run hotel and we found the manager and staff very sociable and helpful. We stayed in the newly built "Villa" which is a separate three storey building next to the hotel with all rooms offering a lake view in line with Malcesine's castle (Scaligero Castle). Rooms are of fair size with good beds and a separate shower en-suite. Air conditioning runs from 6.30pm to 6.30am for an additional charge of six Euros per night which we found was well worth the expense. In the Villa rooms as standard have a wall mounted satellite television, hair dryer, fridge and a safe but note you do not have a kettle so if like us you want to have a cup of tea on the room balcony you will need to pack a travel kettle. There are two Spar supermarkets and many other independent shops in the town for you to buy other provisions.
The Hotel Augusta is very secure and clean with the maids servicing the room each day.
We found the buffet style continental breakfast held each morning either inside or outside on the patio or terrace each morning to be first rate as we wanted to get away from English food. At other times of the day food in the hotel is limited but remember that the shops and an excellent restaurant with a pizza takeaway (Ristoro) are only a short walk.
Be prepared for walking and sudden changes in weather due to the mountain location - we did not take any warm weather clothing but a shower proof jacket is advisable. Luckily we did take pakamacs so when it did rain for a few days during our holiday we were prepared.
The air is clean and fresh and the scenery stunning - simply stop and get a drink in one of the many restaurants, cafes or bars and just people watch.
The hotel has a pool which goes from shallow to deep steeply and a whirlpool bath which operates on the hour. There is a small gym with a sauna and steam room.
I would recommend the hotel which is peaceful (there is a school located close to the hotel but this did not bother us) clean, and a good base from which to explore.
Note that our child is aged twelve so just under the teenage years but I guess if you are considering this holiday and hotel you will already have taken what this destination offers into account.
We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday at this hotel and would return another year.
