“Glorious hotel, best views in Lake Garda”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 October 2011

The hotel is a beautiful villa in a quiet part of Malcesine. On arrival, we were upgraded to a newly renovated junior suite in the main building which was a nice surprise. The views from the room and balcony were glorious, the best in Lake Garda! We stayed on a half board basis with 4 courses in the evening and continental style for breakfast. All the food was very good and nicely presented with a choice of meals in the evening. The staff were friendly throughout the hotel, from the manager, reception, cleaners and restaurant (nobody was grumpy with us!). Infact the staff went out of their way and nothing was too much trouble. The best thing about the hotel is the location, high up and so peaceful, perfect for a relaxing break. The weather was mixed and not warm enough to use the pool, but it looked gorgeous. We walked into Malcesine one day along the road, it took 15 mins (part pavement/part road) but it was fine. We walked back along the lake and took the stairs up which are very steep and a little run down/overgrown but fine if you are fit enough. We hired a car and went all round the lake and to verona. We visited many places, Malcesine is definitely one of the best villages to be based at. We would love to return in the summer months to enjoy the pool and recommend this hotel highly. I can't believe this is not higher up on trip advisor.

Room Tip: High floors for the best views

“BETTER THAN EVER!.......”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2011

I have written about the Bellevue San Lorenzo before BUT I just want to add news from this year.....2011!
Improvements have been made to this already STUNNING HOTEL!
The rooms in the New Villa were always my favourite....mostly because the rooms were bigger AND more modern.....BUT since I was last there....2010....the rooms in the main house have seen some fabulous refurbishments! It has modernised the feel of the communal parts (with wave-key room entry and automatic corridor lights etc!)
...but,importantly,taken nothing away from the character of the room/s!
There has been a VERY subtle canopy built over the front of the building...beautifully and sympathetically merging with the old building! This has created more suites....with balconies overlooking the enchantiing village of Malcesine! AB FAB!
The staff AND the owner (I mention him as there is adverse comment in previous feedback!) were all on good form and, as usual, nothing was too much trouble!
The dining was, as ever, superb....actually, I would say that it was even better than it has been before....maybe new chef?....I don't know....but it was good dining!
I wish this was my second home!

“Beautiful hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 September 2011

Beautiful hotel, very well maintained grounds and fabulous infinity pool. Stayed in a Junior suite in the new building which had a terrace with views of the Lake and Malcesine. The room did have air conditioning which some of the older rooms do not.

Although it is a very beautiful hotel, the distance from the town centre did become a bit of a chore after a few days. We travelled as a group, most of whom were staying in the cente of town and we did envy them a little at the end of each night as we made the journey back to the hotel. To be fair we spent most of the day out of the hotel, so a central location would have suited us better.

Malcesine is a wonderful place, and when we return, we will base ourselves in one of the apartments in the city centre but would still recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a stylish place to stay who dont mind being based outwith the centre of town.

“Very Excellent but avoid the manager”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 September 2011 via mobile

The view is breathtaking and ambience is serene. The communal areas are very slick and stylish. The comlplex as a whole is exceptionally clean and very well maintained. The facillities are very impressive with two bars a great pool and a terrace to die for.
The chef is excellent. Over a number of meals we had a number of very high quality dishes including carpaccio of octopus and fillet steak, some of the best food I have ever eaten, let alone in a hotel.
The waiters were attentive, professional and were sympathetic if not amused with my attempts at Italian and the receptionists simply couldn't do enough for us. And then there is the manager/owner.
I have never met someone so ungracious in charging what he charges for a stay and not being happy about it. Any reasonable request made to him was almost greeted with a huff and a sigh. He was clearly unhappy that we wanted to clear our drinks tab at the end of everyday. He pointedly ignored us and seemed offended that we couldn't speak italian-even though we tried from the outset. Don't let this guy put you off though everybody else including cleaners were very friendly. My only other complaint is that the room was a little tired- but very clean and there is air con. Generally very excellent. Highly reccomended

“Beautiful Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 September 2011

We absolutely loved this hotel. There a several different buildings that make up this hotel and the other reviews make me think that perhaps these vary in terms of feel and decor etc.

We booked a double room with a lake view and then I received a confirmation for a junior suite! I didn't correct this as they had quoted the same price, but they realised the week before and sent me a really polite and nice email just correcting it. This was fine, as it was what I had booked!

When we got there they were really apologetic about the confusion (which had in no way inconvenienced us anyway) and had left us a bottle of wine to apologise. This made me think that the room we ended up with was not going to be very nice. How wrong I was! Ceiling to floor windows with a panoramic view of the lake. A big balcony (it is sort of a shared balcony in that there is not actual fence between next door, but the plants they use as a fence do the same thing and we had no problem with this).

The room was modern, had very good air con and it was incredibly spacious. The bathroom was beautiful and all done very minimalist.

The hotel is a 20 min walk for the centre of malcesine. There are steps down to the lakeside promenade and it is a nice walk. You do have to cross the road, which can be quite busy but there is a crossing just a short way down. We did not find this a problem at all.

Overall we had a wonderful time and we will definitely return here. The staff were lovely and breakfast was nice (we didn't eat any other meals there).

highly recommended!

Room Tip: We had room 207 which was in a new block.
