“Pre Wedding holiday”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 November 2011

We stayed at the Val Di Sogno for 8 days in August 2011. After alot of searching this was the hotel that we also recommended to our close family and friends who came over for our wedding.
The hotel was superb and the views were amazing. It is was a fantastic week lead up to our wedding and as a few young children were also in our party they made us feel very welcome.
The food was fantastic the only down side was that you had to choose what you wanted at breakfast. They were very accommadating for our children and made meals to suit their requirements.
The pool area was lovely and they also had a smaller pool for the younger children and small play area, which was great.
My husband, brother and sister in law all swam in the Lake daily and said how lovely the water was.
There is a bar just up the road which is right on the corner as you enter the road to reach the Val Di Sogno, which was also good for late night drinking! and reasonably priced. The owners and staff were also very friendly although had limited English but we managed with our fantastic british sign language of large beer and litre of wine!!
The only down side to our holiday was on leaving the Val Di Sogno they tried to charge us for a cot that we had not requested. We argued for about 3 hours and after threatening to have me arrested (the day before my wedding!!!) the matter was eventually resolved and although was a fault of Citalia (travel company) not ours I felt that as a large party of 13 we spent a substantial amount of money both with booking the hotel in peak season and also with the amount spent whilst at the hotel, this matter could of been dealt with more promptly and without the threats! This was our only downside and I hope this was only a one off.
However if this was a one off I would highly reccommend this hotel, especially for the views.

“Terrible food....”

We arrived on a Friday afternoon in early October for a very much needed long weekend away after an awful year. First impressions were good, the view over the lake from our room was stunning, and the lady on the front desk was friendly and welcoming.
After that, things went steadily downhill.....
In our bathroom, black grout had been used (on white tiles) to "patch up" around the shower cubicle, and looked very unsightly. There were other minor niggles, such as no waste paper basket in the room, the safe not working on three occaisions, and missing lightbulbs. Our double bed was two single beds pushed together, with two single duvets on top.
The bar area completely lacked atmosphere, and often there was no-one on duty at the bar.
The food in the restaurant was simply AWFUL. Each evening the first course was "a buffet of salads".....this consisted of chopped tomatoes, lettuce and onion and tinned sweetcorn. It was the same every night! Accompanied by salad dressings in bottles that anyone could buy in a supermarket, and stale bread. The menu each evening was one meat choice, or one fish, or a vegetarian option. Not what we would expect from a four star hotel. The food was lukewarm and VERY mediocre, and the white wine was not chilled. Dessert.....ONE "homemade?" choice, or supermarket ice cream, or cheese and biscuits (measly portion). You had to choose what you wanted at breakfast time! Goodness knows how they would have coped if anyone changed their mind!!
Breakfast was MUCH WORSE. Our first breakfast in the hotel, on the morning of my BIrthday, was quite simply the worst I have eaten in my entire life.
Scrambled eggs and bacon.....STONE COLD. My husband chose a boiled egg, which was RAW. Stale bread, stale croissants, supermarket packaged cakes, and juice from a machine labeled "fresh juice" that was orangina!! We spotted a notice up that said if anybody wanted fresh orange juice, the charge was 2.80 euros!!! How can a four star hotel CHARGE guests on half board for juice with their breakfast! The toaster was missing its control knob.
I agree with a previous review that German guests seemed to be allocated the best tables, overlooking the lake.
On the Saturday, we went for a dip in the hotel pool, supposedly heated to 26 degees (more like 16), nice pool, but when we went to change in the "changing facilities" we were very disturbed by what we saw. In one of the changing cubicles there was several bottles of bleach and other cleaning materials within easy reach of children (there were a few staying while we were there), very dangerous. The changing area was dimly lit and dirty, and very shabby. My husband commented that he had been to better campsites. The spa area had no changing facilities, just one toilet cubicle, and no lockers either. On a more positive note, the staff all seemed friendly.
It is the only hotel we have been to that did not offer guests a feedback form on checking out.....wonder why?
Overall, it was an expensive mistake, and we will never return, nor would we recommend it to others.......our advice is stay away!

“perfect location”

situated on the east coast of garda lake and within walking distance to Malcesine, the hotel offers a great combination of lake shore, beautiful garden and excellent restaurant. Great place also for families with small kids, as it is away from the busy lake road and offers nice swimming pool for all ages. No problem to park the car and always very nice and attentive service from the family run hotel staff. Rooms are comfortable and have great views over the lake from all balconies. We are going there for many years are not planning to stop it.

Room Tip: choose room on top floor or suite

“Truly Magnificent, Just Wonderful!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

Just returned from a 10 day stay at this wonderful hotel. The setting is beautiful and so peaceful away from the main road. The hotel staff are very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. There is a lovely lakeside walk to Malcesine which only takes about 15 minutes and well worth the walk.

The food is quite limited and you do have to choose your evening meal at breakfast which is a shame - but this is the only downside - and will not put me off returning.
