We stayed at La Divina in Oct 2010.
We found this an ideal base to explore the area. Our apartment consisted of a kitchen living area with a sofa that easily converted in to an extra double. The kitchen had everything you would need for self catering but we rarely ate in as there were just to many excellent places to eat locally.
The bed room was very spacious with an en-suite at the far end. This was the only bathroom for the apartment so there could be some privacy issues if the sofa bed is in use.
The living area led on to spacious balcony which overlooked the pool ideal for a relaxing evening drink.
The apartments are in a built up area a few streets back from the main road, in a mainly residential
area so don't expect to be looking straight on to the beach.
As some others have mentioned noise could be an issue as you can here chairs moving in apartments on either side or above and below. We didn't have a problem but if you ended up next door to a noisy family it could well spoil your holiday.
Towels were changed daily and and a full service is only carried out once during your week.
Rubbish you have to deal with yourself and it has to be sorted for recycling and taken out every day after 8.30 pm and no earlier, in fact we were stooped by the lady in reception from taking it out at 6pm she pointed out that if caught be the police we would be in line for a large fine, the likes of it I have never heard in my life.
We found Maiori to be an ideal base to explore the Amalfi coast it is a charming little resort with a wide promenade and long beach but don't expect golden sand. You can easily walk along the coast to the next town of Minori,
Local buses are excellent and you can easily travel the length of the coast, they can be overcrowded
and a bit hair-rasing at times.
You can also catch the Red sight seeing open top bus to Amalfi itself and then on to the Ravello set in the hills above. From there you can descend the 1000 or so steps to Minori and thence carry on foot back to Maiori. Stunning views and highly recommended .
Went on one organised trip to Vesuvio and Pompeii which was excellent.
We visited many restaurants and Kiosk type establishments in the resort and never felt overcharged once. We didn't have such a good experience in Amalfi when we stopped at small café just up from the cathedral for a coffee, we were offered some local cake and foolishly didn't check the price. Well three coffees and three bits of cake amounted to 33 Euros. We had something similar in Salerno for under a tenner.
The weather ranged from around 16C to 24C and was pleasant enough for us natives of the Highlands. The locals though were dressed in their winter coats and you could see some of them were clearly thinking the foreigners in their t-shirts were some what loco.
Long and short we had a brilliant time. If you go I hope you do to.
