I have just spent a week here travelling as part of a group. The standard room I was allocated was tiny (barely room for the double bed), dark and had a balcony which opened out onto a scruffy internal well complete with air conditioning units and the like. Many of our group's rooms were similarly bad and some were also very noisy. Paying a hefty supplement for a 'superior' room solved the problem for me but it should not have been necessary. No air conditioning in October so the rooms were very hot all the time.
The buffet breakfast was OK (if a rather odd assortment of bits and pieces) but the evening meal was dire - meagre, cold, poor quality and sometimes very peculiar (eg., warm pickled onions as the only vegetable) with no sign of any of the wonderful salads and vegetables we saw in the shops and markets. Towards the end of the week, we abandoned the hotel in the evenings and ate out nearby.
The Reginna Palace has no charm, unlike other smaller family run hotels which we looked at nearby.
Mairori itself is a pleasant but unexceptional resort which made a good base for a touring holiday.
