“Friendly staff at the Reginna Palace”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 October 2007

We arrived late because of the flight times, and missed dinner. No problem, they said we could have lunch instead on our last day, and they were pleased to honour without a quibble. Instead, as they have no room service, they pointed us in the direction of a late serving restaurant on the sea front, and took our car to the car park. This was the only gripe we had - they charge 18 euros a day for the car park, which we hadn't known beforehand. We found out the next day that there's no free parking anywhere, so we moved to a cheaper car park (10 euros a day).

The hotel is medium size (100 to 150 people at a guess) in 1970's glass and concrete style, so a bit blocky and could look nicer, but it's clean, and has a large, well maintained and exotic garden which has grown over a lot of the lower buildings and softened the edges. The poole was had curves instead of straight edges so was a very attractive place to stay, with plenty of shady places if the sun gets too boring.

It's situated right on the seafront, with only a pedestrian area/service road and the main Amalfi road between the hotel and the beach. The service road is Via Christophe Colombo, the hotel's address, and the block between the hotel and beach is part of the promenade, with huge palm trees. A very attractive setting.

The room was a bit smaller than we expected, with nowhere to store our bags except on top of the wardrobe, but it had a balcony facing east, overlooking the garden, and a clean modern bathroom, so after we unpacked and got the suitcases out of the way it suited us. There were a number of tours which arrived, and only stayed overnight, so they might have been tripping over their suitcases. We looked the sea view rooms at the front when they were left open for cleaning, and they're much larger.

The staff were very nice, all very helpful. The waiters were very friendly, and staying half board lets you see them at their best - chirpy in the mornings, elegant and lively in the evenings. They liked to put on a bit of a show! Very warm people, and they spoke English pretty well too, so we could joke with them.

The food was the biggest surprise. The buffet breakfast had a lot of choice of continental food, eat and drink as much as you want, which suited us. But - they do play 80's R'n'B a lot during the day, so be prepared for a quick shuffle with Geraldo to a Donna Summer track or two!

The evenings were the special times (and ete music goes off!), the waiters wear their whites, and the food, especially the seafood, is sumptuous. They have a great chef, and the waiters are adept at serving, so the fish was often filleted at your table. And it was delicious! The meats were good too, and they always had a choice of fish, meat or vegetarian.

All in all, we'd recommended the hotel, and we were sad to go.

Incidentally, Maiori itself has the drawback of having had some of it's buildings destroyed in the 50's, so the front has many newer buildings, like the Reginna Palace, which give it a Spanish Costa look from the main road. Persevere, because behind the front are many older buildings worth exploring, like the garden of the tourist office, with it's sunken fountains, and the castle way up above the town, which is worth the walk.

A lovely place to stay, with friendly people, and not too far along the crazy Amalfi road if you have a car!!

in june 2006 my wife and i stayed at the Regima Palace hotel in Maiori on the amafi coast .we had a standard room with twin beds on suite bathroom with bath shower over bath toilet bidet and handbasin and its own sea facing balcony. we stayed on a half board basis and had an excellant waiter served al a carte meal every night. We had a choice of four starters four maincourse plus a sweet the choice was excellant varid every night and was well cooked and presented. The hotel had its own outdoor swimming pool laid out in a large tropical garden with palm trees flowers and lemon trees. we had an excllant self service breakfast served with newly baked bread buns every morning on the open air veranda in the gardrnThe hotel is very centraly located on the seafront overlooking the palm treed promonade and sandy beach. The hotel has four stars and well merits this rating and was furnished to a very high standard with very friendly and helpfull staff who all spoke english and would recomend it to any one looking for a good value hotel with very high standards.

“Worst Hotel we stayed at in Italy”

We were traveling with a Group and our booking agent unfortuneately went on the 4 star rating that is completely inaccurate. We upgraded our room for an additional 50 euros for an ocean front . When we arrived we found the Hotel to be across the busy street from the beach and our 1st floor room viewed the trees in front of the Hotel.

When asked to be moved, we were told they were all booked and couldn't move us, which we all know is an easy excuse out of a problem.

We could have sleep on a cot on the front of the hotel and gotten the same amount of sleep. Constant traffic and general outside noise made sleeping impossible until 3 am, when scooter traffic finally reduced.

Our bathroom had cracked and missing tiles from both the floor and the walls. The floor tiles in the room itself had 9 loose tiles that rattled as you walked over them.

Very little english speaking help at the front desk.

Breakfast was a typical low end hotel breakfast. Poor choice by our travel agent based on the hotel's star rating. This hotel is not someplace that I would recommend for even an overnight, you will get no sleep.

“A great place to vacation”

Reginna Palace has been my vacation place since 1983. This is a wonderful hotel, probably the most friendly place to stay in all Europe. The hotel is clean and managed well by the Cimini family and especially Giovanna, the daughter of the founder and owner. All the members of the Cimini family are available to assist when needed. What I enjoy most about the staying at this hotel is the family. Often we meet on the street and will have coffee or conversation.

Of course, the food at the Reginna is 5 star and the staff in the restaurant equals the food. Especially Chuckles, our waiter.

The bar extends to the garden/pool and the drinks are excellent. Gabrielle, the bartender, makes wonderful drinks and if you want one he doesn't have...just ask him and he will get it.

Enoy you visit at Reginna Palace. If you are there in October, 2005 perhaps we can have a drink at the pool.

“Wonderful, comfortable, friendly Hotel & Staff”

This was our fourth holiday at the Regina Palace, which speaks for itself. Our children loved the Regina & Maiori so much that my daughter decided that she would love to get married on the beautiful Amalfi coast and have the reception in the Regina Palace Hotel. I could not have been more special. The wedding was in Ravello but we wanted the reception in the Regina, where we felt quite at home. The family who run the Hotel could not have been kinder or more efficient in the organisation of the reception down the finest detail, for example the beautifully printed menus especially for the bride and groom, the table decorations and the wonderful entertainment. The waiters are exceptionally kind and friendly and they now feel like old friends, they have all worked at the Hotel for many years which also speaks so highly of the Hotel that they keep their loyal staff. The receptionists were always very kind, friendly and efficient together with all the chambermaids etc, all turned out to clap the newly married couple back to the reception. The food at the reception was wonderful, as it always is and served so professionally and with such class. A wonderful experience. We will certainly be returning and can recommend it to anyone.
