“Fantastic cosy hotel in the heart of a brilliant ski resort”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 April 2010

We visited the Savoia Palace for a week in February for our honeymoon and could not have chosen a better hotel. The rooms & bar were cosy & warm, the food was amazing (a 5 course dinner every night if you could manage it!), and the staff were first class, especially the barman & restaurant manager. It was a lovely place to come back to after a hard days skiing and you didn't really feel the need to leave again! There is a ski room to leave all your stuff in & they make sure you don't walk through the hotel in ski boots etc so it's kept nice & clean. There is a small wellness centre with a great jacuzzi, sauna & steam room & you can even have massages etc at an extra cost. Madonna is a great resort, especially for relative beginners, which we were, and it's fairly easy to ski round the whole mountain range without doing the same run twice! The hotel is located about a 5 min walk from the 5 Laghi lift so there's no need to get on buses etc, although there is one if you want to get to a different lift and aren't strong enough to carry your skis! The resort as a whole is not a cheap resort, not helped by the value of the Euro - so as long as you know that before you go you won;t be too shocked. You can buy the best hot chocolate, which is basically melted chocolate! And be sure to try a Bombardino on the slopes too!

“Tired but endearing”

First impressions were disappointed, the room was pretty basic with 2 single beds pushed together, not at all like the photos on the website. Having said that the bathroom was good and there was plenty of storage room. Luckily we were on the top floor as the rooms had wooded floors so would think it would be noisy for those below. Although initially we were disappointed the hotel kind of grew on us and became quite endearing, it was like it was old but trying very hard to keep up with the times. The bar was quiet but the 2 barmen who served us while we were there were great, very chatty and friendly, reception and the waiters were also very good. We were half board and the food was very good, a lot of variety so something for everyone. There was a ski locker room which you had to use which was fine and also a small spa area containing a hot tub (the most violent I have been in I think - but good), a sauna and steam room and a couple of showers. You could also book treatments if you wanted. The town itself was on the whole quiet we had trouble finding restaurants or bars, restaurants were not really a problem as we were half board and we tended to stick to Bar Stube for evening and after ski drinks staff here were lovely. Mostly Italians at the resort who loved parading around in fur coats. The hotel was well situation for the Cinque Laghi lift about 3 minute walk. The ski area was great and would suit beginners and early intermediates very well blues and reds were on the easier side of the grades but it was still great fun as I don't like scaring myself stupid all the time. There were some blacks as well, I did find although the pistes were well groomed they did get churned up badly quite early in the day on the reds due to the volume of skiers, I thought it was quite busy but am more used to Canada and others said it was not that busy compared to other resorts in Europe. There was also some good off piste between the Groste and Spinale area. The scenery was spectacular and took your breath away. You can also ski to nearby Folgarida and Marilleva which also have some good slopes, there were also some lovely on mountain restaurants where you could sit outside which as is the norm in europe played 80's music much to our amusement. There were a few lift queues but nothing to time consuming and it was quite funny as it always ended up in a bit of bun fight as the locals jostled to get to the front first, we became quite good at pushing in (not the English way) by the end of the holiday. Apres was quite a lively affair for the locals, with loud cheesey music and dancing on tables, many of the locals seem to stop for lunch and then not bother skiing after that. Much to my amazement I found myself falling in love with this resort and would probably return and probably stay in the Savoia Palace again something I would not have said at the start of the holiday.

“It feels like a second home”

I have been to the Savoia on four occassions now between 2003 and 2010. I keep going back as a result of the wonderful hospitality of all the staff from the cleaners to Franco the owner. Nothing is too much trouble. The staff are predominantly the same on each visit and they give a warm, informative and friendly service.

The location is exceptional right in the heart of the village centre both for skiing and apres ski. If you like well groomed pistes with limited lift queues and an exceptional lift system then Madonna is for you. If you like exceptional food then you only need eat in the Cascina Zeledria for Lunch and the Savoia for Dinner.

For drinks the bar opposite the Savoia is full of Italian chic from 5 till 7, the Josef Stubl gives you a little bar style culture and then you have the piano bar with exceptional cocktails. This is not an Austrian beer swilling umpah band singing resort if that's what you want stay in Austria.

I have been to some of the greats namely Verbier, St. Anton and Davos but Madonna is the only one that I have returned to. I shouldn't be saying all of this because it will become too popular and lose all its present charm, but Franco has asked that I say a few words and I feel duty bound to pay testimony to my all time favourite ski destination.

“Fantastic service and amazing quality of food”

Every member of staff was exellent in their care and courteousness to the guests. The evening meals were flavoursome and the quality of all the ingredients was amazing- giving us something to look forward to every night during our week's stay.
The owners are around most of the time and eat at the same time as the guests, giving the place a personal touch.
The hotel's common areas and bedrooms are a little dark because of all the wooden panels but it is a traditional look and well cared for, and there is good lighting in the bedroom we had. These areas may benefit from a little modernisation, whilst preserving the traditional influence.
The spa felt very new and is a bright space with good facilities.
If you ski, the location is great, a few minutes walk to the cable car and it is right in the centre of town. We had a great week.

“Great times in the Savoia Palace Hotel in Madonna di Campiglio”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 April 2009

It's been several years now that me and my family choose the Savoia Palace Hotel for our winter holidays in Italy. It's almost like a second house to us: I really don't have to tell you about the fine italian meals, or the kindness of the staff, because you probably know everything about it. But this hotel is in the center of the little town of Madonna di Campiglio, a couple of minutes from the skilifts, and you can enjoy a beatiful view from the windows of your room.
The warm atmosphere and the possibility to try every winter sport are probably the reasons why we keep on going there.
