“A fine four star hotel with five star service”

A Fine 4 Star Hotel with 5 Star Service!

We have just had a wonderful week in Madonna di Campiglio staying half board at Hotel Gianna. After reading all the positive reviews on Tripadvisor we booked our stay last October and so glad we did! Hotel Gianna is run by a family that are committed to making their guests feel welcome and at home. In fact they couldn't have done more.
We stayed in room 302 with the loft space. Our 2 daughters loved to have their own space and so did we! Although the mezzanine loft area has limited headroom it was more than adequate.

The waiter that looked after us during our stay, Khalin, was friendly, attentive and efficient. The food was fresh and tasty with good choice. If there was something that one of us didn't fancy an alternative was offered without fuss. We have to mention the apple strudel and tiramisu which was delicious! Breakfast was plentiful with good choice and very fresh.

The hotel ran an excellent drop off and pick up service to the various ski lifts in the town and even stretched as far as Campo Carlo Magno, several kilometres away. However this service in our case did not end there! Last Tuesday at 9.30pm we were on the way back from Monclassico (which is 15 kilometers away on the other side of the mountain) we were caught in a severe snow storm Our car was skidding and sliding on the road between Folgarida and Campo Carlo Magno. We contacted the hotel as we didn't know what else to do and Federico (one of the sons of Gianna and Rudy) without hesitation came to pick us up and take us back to the hotel. He even found a safe place for our car off the main mountain road. We arrived back after 11pm. My husband offered to cover the costs of our rescue but Federico refused. After a couple of days Christian (one of the other sons of Gianna and Rudy)took us back to retrieve our car! This is the kind of service that is a credit to the owners.

In view of our experience we were surprised by a recent negative review. Please don't let this hold you back from staying and experiencing real Italian hospitality from family Armani! As for us we are already planning to return within the next year!

“Unfortunately, a three star hotel for the price of four.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 February 2010

Out of my many ski holidays in Italy, this one was by far the least successful thanks to this hotel. To start with, it is awful value for money, charging around 200 Euros per person for rooms so tiny that you can hardly make a step away from the bead and missing some essential shower utensils. I know this was the most expensive season of the year, but I’ve stayed in plenty of rooms for the same price that these rooms can hardly compare to.

Indeed, those in charge of this establishment may, perhaps, suffer from an unusual measure of frugality. It seems traditional in ski resort for hotels to offer afternoon tea and snacks for returning skiers, yet here there is nothing of the sort, but of course they suggest that you can buy everything from the bar. Money is no object, but nonetheless this kind of attitude can severely spoil the setting.

The food that their restaurant serves tends to be pretty average and far from delicious that their brochure claims. About the same standard that you’d get for lunch at the mountain diner, but my experiences suggest four star hotel dinners should aim to be better. The ingredients are rationed in strict portions as you’d expect from a prison canteen. And if you touch something that’s being displayed, they’re quick to insist that there’s no self-service.

To make matters worse, a piece of expensive jewellery dissappeared from my friend’s room. Though he was partially at fault for not locking it in a safe, the extent of the manager’s indifference was completely repugnant.

The final present included a bunch of small things that we didn’t have added to the bill. Of course, they were fast to take them off as soon as discovered, as most unscrupulous usually do. Though I would personally hope that they were only negligent.

In short, judging by amenities and services this is truly a three star hotel that charges you the price for four. Though most of the staff seemed very nice and the spa facilities, according to those who tried them, are up to standard, the attitude of those who run this place tend to make the stay overall a disappointing experience.

Dear Sirs,

I'm very sorry that one you wrote in your review.

I suppose there were other problems because if you read other guests comments you can find nothing about your complains.

Food, rooms, service, were cleary descripted in our correspondence before your reservation.

I suppose you are not really informed about italian cuisine, service and Madonna di Campiglio prices compared with our treatment.

Sorry for my answer, I understood our hotel is not enough for your level but this does not mean you can partially or wholly invent things about us.

Had a wonderful stay here for 5 days with my son. Lovely quiet position in Madonna about 7 mins walk around lake and park into center. Excellent food with a good choice of dishes. Room with balcony overlooking wonderful views and spotless. Relaxed in Wellness Center after busy days and then cooled down in lovely garden with tea and homemade cake.

“Excellent hotel, Very good service, Good location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2009

Hotel Gianna is a very modern hotel with excellent location. One of the last hotels in an alley (Ski bus turnaround) not far from the nearest ski lift. The Hotel has it's own shuttle bus which they use to take people to the lifts and back. We used it a couple of times, but mainly relied on the ski bus service. The distance is also not impossible by foot which we also tryed in a nice, sunny weather. Being situated in the end of the alley, the location is very quiet.

I would definately recommend half board, since the food and service is just excellent. We stayed there during christmas time and the eight course xmas dinner was just mind blowing (and stomach filling..). Every other day we were served a four course dinner, which we had a possibility to choose from a special selection for the day. There was always one appetizer and 3-4 second and third courses to choose from. The desert was also fixed every day. 3rd and 4th courses had always a choice of meat, fish and vegetable and typically a soup or pasta. Half board also included a small snack around 3-5 pm, which was typically a piece of cake, fruit salad and tea.

Downstairs was a health spa with a wide variety of different treatments that my wife tryed. I settled for whirpool, finnish sauna and a steam sauna instead. There was also a small swimming pool with a possibility to turn on a current for those who wanted to swim. The spa area was quite spacious and propably the biggest I've seen for a hotel this size. It was on two floors, upper for the treatments and the lower for everything else.

The hotel was equipped with an elevator, so it fits also people with disabilities. One cool thing was when I told the concierge the first day that our room was a little bit cold, he managed the temperature from a computer. There was other fancy technology in this hotel and this made the hotel quite modern. The rooms had credit card keys that were identified from distance and there was a small green/red light on the reader which told the cleaning staff whether someone was in the room or not. Our room was cleaned twice a day and every evening during the dinner our pyjamas were set in a funny way on the bed (check out the photo) :)

All-in-all, a very pleasant stay. Only small hinder was a fact that our room was situated right next to the elevator shaft. Therefore we could hear the elevator quite well every time it went up or down (it sounded a lot like a small snow plow going back and forth in the yard). So just a small tip for you guys planning to book a trip, ask for a room away from the elevator :)

Another thing that came to us as a surprice was that the 6 day ski ticket that was included in the price, was only to the Madonna di Campiglio lifts. This we found out one day when we skied down to a other side of the mountain trying to access the other areas displayed on the ski map.

  • Liked — Good food, service, little getaway present
  • Disliked — The elevator shaft behind our bed

We stayed at Hotel Gianna for a ski week in February, and it was one of the best vacation experiences we have had in a long time. The family that runs this hotel cannot do enough to help make your stay a perfect one. We had a a duplex room with a balcony, as we were traveling with our son he had a loft space all to himself and it allowed my wife and I to have some privacy on the lower floor. The hotel was recently renovated and is in mint condition. The Hotel also has a wellness/spa center that is open to guests that is a perfect antidote after a day of skiing. There is a heated pool, a steam room, sauna, hot tub, aroma therapy showers as well as massage services. The food is excellent with different menus every night, and in the morning a full buffet breakfast. The hotel also has a van service to take you to and pick you up from the many different ski areas in Madonna di Campiglio. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for an idyllic vacation in the Italian alps.

  • Liked — The care with which the owners met and went beyond our every need
  • Disliked — slightly out of the center of the town for walking to shops etc.
