Februray 2008 was the 5th consecutive year that we have stayed at the Marzia .. we have already made the reservation for 2009.
We are a family of 5 and usually ski in February with a group of friends ... this year there were 31 of us (14 rooms) ranging in age from 6 to 49. Many of the group were returning for the second and third time to the Marzia. We find Livigno ideal for a family / mixed ability group ... for an advanced skier in need of challenges, Livigno is not for you. The height of the resort means the snow is generally reliable, even as the end of season approaches.
The hotel is located close to the ski lifts wich are literally across the road. There are a number of ski rental outlets to choose from beside the hotel. The ski school office is across the road as is the outlet selling the ski passes.
The hotel is modern and (for the most part) well maintained. The staff are friendly, responsive and helpful. As the other reviews note, the buffet breakfast is a highlight ... just what you need before heading out to the slopes. For a large group such as ours, on request, the hotel will provde a buffet dinner one evening which is good and well priced.
There is also a lesiure centre with sauna, steam room and massage services available. It is a pity that here is no pool.
There is a selection of good quality well priced restaurants within walking distance for lunch or dinner (Bellavista, La Pioda); if you are willing to take a 5 minute taxi ride, try Toilesor (the hotel will make a reservation) ... a great restaurant.
There is nightlife close to the hotel, but the real action is about 1,000m away in the centre of Livigno. For the adults in the Group there is an excellent wine bar, Wine & Co, about 500m towards the centre of the town ... a real retreat after 5:00pm and before dinner. For younger adults there are selection of lively bars.
Nothing is ever perfect and this year the heater in the locker system was not working which meant cold and damp boots in the morning ...
Another drawback (which the marzia can do nothing about) is the transfer to Livigno ... 4-5 hours from Milan, Innsbruck or Friedrichshaven. The solution is fly in on Friday and out on Sunday and take the time to enjoy the spectacular scenery onthe drive to Livigno.
Definitely one of our favourite hotels ... there are cheaper places to stay in Livigno but the Marzia offers good value .
