Situated in a beautiful spot about 1km from the town centre of Lipari (but 2.5km by road) the hotel offers good size rooms, a free shuttle service to town, an outdoor saltwater swimming pool with sun terrace and good bar service, and attractive gardens.
The big plus for the Carasco is the restaurant: the half-board menu is of an excellent standard and very good value. The menu includes a choice of pasta or primi piatti, followed by a choice of main courses (mostly fish) and dessert or gelato. Half board can be taken at lunch or dinner.
The Carasco was highly recommended to us, but we had the impression of an establishment struggling to cut costs - the breakfast was less extravagant than before (OK but basic), areas of the terrace were fenced off (for reasons of safety or lack of maintenance) as was one of the two stairways leading to the sea, and our bedspread had a hole in it.
The hotel was less than half full in this period, casualty no doubt of the recession. In conclusion, I'd still recommend it. Be sure to shop around as prices and availability vary among the internet agencies, with even a 25% variation in the price of the dinner.

when we arrived the place was pretty deserted so when we were given our room we were a bit disappointed, the room was not that great, but before we had time to complain we were upgraded to a room with the most amazing views and I found the staff very friendly. We got lots of advice on great restaurants to visit and sights to see. We never ate at the hotel but we were in walking distance of loads of wonderful places. I loved Lipari and would go back. We went off season so this hotel was very empty

Worst place we stayed in the whole of Sicily. Way too expensive for the old smelly rooms, murky saltwater pool and rude staff. 15 min walk to anything of interest. Check your bill very very carefully!

This hotel oozes of decay and neglect. Its interior is dark and gloomy, reminiscent of a bad taste italian restaurant from the 70s: one of those with fake grapes hanging off the ceiling. The hotel really gets to you and puts you into a state of deep depression. The rooms are of poor taste. The beds are absolutely horrible with hard and uneven mattresses. We hardly found any sleep the first night and marked this out to the staff. To be fair: our complaint was taken seriously, as we the next day got it replaced by a marginally better one, on which it was possible to sleep, however waking up with aching backs.
The hotel must be given credit for its location, situated on a cliff, with a beautiful drop into the sea. Our room had a balcony with a lovely view of the bay of Lipari. The staff were all right and fairly helpful. The breakfasts were average, compared to other italian hotels, though one should expect more of a 4 star one.
