We arrived at the Hotel Venere Azzurra the day before the World Cup. The room was not as large as depicted in the photographs, however the balcony was wonderful although not private. It overlooked the Bay of Poets and a great beach. Our room had air conditioning which was adequate, in fact too cold at times so I can't understand what the previous reviewer was talking about (maybe his was broken!). The breakfast was not good, just some overbaked croissants and some prepacked crackers and biscuits. The only silver lining was that they offered cappuccino made on the spot. We had a very nice lady help us on a couple of occasions, she advised us on good places to eat in Lerici. The parking was about 50 meters away, they gave a special permit which was helpful since it was a limited parking zone so it wasn't too inconvenient. Lerici itself was a great place to visit and about a 15 minute walk away, although the city bus came frequently and was easy to ride. The hair dryer in my room didn't work so I had bad hair after I washed it!
I would definitely recommend Lerici, it is super convenient to the Cinque Terre but a destination for Italians which made it really great to see Italy win the World Cup! We only had one other group speaking English in two days in Lerici which is exactly how we like to travel. The towns of the Cinque Terre were completely covered in Americans so I'm very glad we didn't stay there. A ferry ride to the Cinque Terre at it's most distant point was about 20 Euro round trip, expensive but worth it as driving is very difficult.
