We stayed in Lecce for a conference in the last week of May, 2010. We found the Vico del Sole online, and it is one of the best B&B's we've ever stayed in. True to Italian form, it's in a historic building remodeled with some fairly stringent restrictions, so it doesn't LOOK like a modern hotel: the bathroom is oddly planned, for example, and there isn't a lot of cross-ventilation. But because the walls are 3 feet thick, it was cool even after scorchingly hot days in Lecce, and the bathroom and shower were perfectly clean and functional and elegant. The bedroom was spacious and the bed very comfortable. But the breakfasts. Oh, the breakfasts. Local pastries (sweet and savory) were the highlight of our stay! The Rustica! Don't miss it. Fresh fruit, perfect coffee, excellent juice, everything you could want at breakfast. I'll stay there again in a heartbeat just to tie on the nosebag. The owners were welcoming and friendly, but very discreet and ready to be invisible if you didn't feel chatty at breakfast. The cost was VERY reasonable, especially for a place in the very center of town, close to everything interesting. If you choose the Vico del Sole, you'll be really glad you did.
