Like previous reviewers I was impressed by how smart and clean this hotel was and I would stay here again. My room wasn't that generously proportioned, and the carpetless floors seemed to amplify other guests' activities, but all was quiet overnight and there is little or no traffic or other street noise. I managed to park very close to the hotel without charge; the parking under the bus station is too far away to be convenient. Air con and free internet supplied. One grumble is that the breakfast area cannot accommodate all guests at one time, I had to wait around for half an hour a couple of times before a group, who had descended en-masse, had fished and the tables cleared. Breakfast was good though. Abruzzo is a great area for walks, scenery, wine and cuisine - L'Aquila is as good a base as any; being a mountainous area you'd have to travel a bit wherever you decided to stay, and is a lively, compact and historic city.

This charming hotel was just a short walk from the town center. The room was small but very comfortable. A helpful and pleasant staff just added to the overall enjoyment. A wonderful buffet breakfast with cakes, pastries, cereals, juices and lots more was a treat each morning. Rooms are very clean with a good bathroom maintained by an exceptional housekeeping crew. Each day of the stay was made more memorable by waking up to the wonderful view of the mountains . Stayed here for more than a week and I couldn't be happier with it.

Stayed here for a couple of nights in September 2007. I'm a frequent traveller to L'aquila, the real Italy. Up until this stay I stayed in Hotel Duomo of the main Piazza which I thought was good until I found the San Michele. 2 minutes walk to the main Piazza. The rooms are average size, but are very well fitted out. Breakfast is typical continental style buffet breakfast, fresh fruit, pastries tea/coffee, juices etc, as much as you want. The building is on the corner of a quite street which is great as Hotel Duomo is on the Piazza and gets very very noisy from the early hours of the morning for the market which is there every morning of the week exept Sundays. The staff at San Michele speak very good english. As for restaurants in the evenings best places are the ones where the locals are. I've found the restaurants on the main Piazza a little less friendly, maybe too used to tourists. But, just walk those extra few yards down the side streets you'll find some great places. The market as I already said is every morning except Sundays, you'll find great fresh food. You have to try the hot food stall only one stall(truck) serves it. They do this fantastic pork with crackling in a bread panini. Yum The hotel also provides a good map of the city. Best way to explore L'aquila is get out and explore it's not very big so you can walk everywhere. I will be staying in the San Michele in the new year and I'm sure many more times. IDEAL!! Learn a few words of Italian it will only enhance your experience.

Hotel San Michele is centrally located but on a quiet street. Our room (twin--two beds) was small but very clean, modern, and comfortable. The mountain view was a treat to behold each morning of the 7-night stay. All members of the staff were friendly and helpful--a restaurant recommended by the desk clerk turned out to be one of the best of the trip. A buffet breakfast, including the most delicious pastries and a very nice cappuccino, was excellent.
