We had previously eaten in the restaurant (which is somewhat out of the main town centre - with a steep climb). So we booked a night in the hotel - for a treat - no driving!

But we were so disappointed. The room (we were shown 2!) was so pokey & nothing like the ones we saw on the website! It was dark - 2 small windows & also next to a door which was the main access to the hotel = noise!

In the event - standards at the restaurant seemed to have plumetted.. we waited ages to get served.. so much so could not face ordering a pudding. Had we have known however what was on offer the next morning for breakfast - I would have filled up the night before! The breakfast was the worst ! we have had in any hotel in Italy & elsewhere..

We shall NOT be going back - such high hopes & expectancy floored completely!

I visited this little hotel recently and was very impressed with its design. The rooms were functional and efficient but with loads of character detail. For example, in the lobby floor there's a window that lets you see the water that still flows through the ancient aquaduct below. There are similar details in the rooms as well.

I love that it's a hotel, but small enough (10 or 11 rooms) that it's still a personal experience, and the fact that it's just steps from the city landmark it's named after. Oh, and downstairs there's an excellent, elegant, but unpretentious restaurant (il drappo). My personal recommendations would be the ravioli agli olaci (like spinach), the stracotto (a kind of stew), and an unusual dessert consisting of ricotta, saffron and pistacchios.
