“Dreadful meal in the restaurant spoilt our stay”

The hotel itself was ok - the room was spacious with a huge balcony (we had upgraded) but I'm afraid a really terrible meal in the restaurant completely spoilt our enjoyment. The hotel is positioned sufficiently far away that walking to any other restaurants is not possible, and as we were tired after a long drive we opted to eat in. Having had a superb meal at another Romantik establishment in Belgium a few weeks previously, we hoped for similar standards - how wrong we were. The choice was limited to begin with - we skipped starters and went straight for main courses - mine was inedible - totally oversalted to the point of not being able to taste anything but salt for some time afterwards. I persevered with a few mouthfuls but had to give up. My partners meal (lamb I think) wasn't quite as salty, but the meat was very gristly and quite unappetising. The head waiter apologised and offered to replace the meal, but by that point my appetite was gone - he suggested some cheese which in fairness to him was a nice idea and we agreed to that. The steak was removed form the bill but the cheese added - I can never be bothered to argue about this so just paid and we left the next morning - somewhat wiser to the Romantik chain - don't judge all their hotels by the standard of one, would be our conclusion.

“Excllent hotel and good value for money.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 September 2010

Stayed here now for the second time and had again a wonderful holiday.
2 tips:
* bring more variation in the breakfast.
* improve the quality of your restaurant: limited menu and too high priced for the offered quality.

“Bring you own earplugs!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 June 2010

I stayed in Villa Maria for a week end which was supposed to be relaxing. I booked a room and a relaxing massage for me and my boyfriend (60 euros each) in the wellness centre.
The hotel is nice, but walls are sooo thin you could also hear your neighbour snoring at night! Furthermore, the wellness centre is builded just underneath the restaurant. At the time I booked the massage, 4 pm, a wedding party started just above our head, so I had to listen at songs, shouts, high heels shoes.. it was terrible! We waisted our money! At the end of the massage I was more nervous than at the beginning!
We complained about it, to the wellness centre and also to the reception, but all we got was a simple "sorry".
If you don't like noise, don't go to Villa Maria.

“Relaxing in a hotel with a beautiful park and swimmingpool”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2009

We have enjoyed our stay at Villa Maria very much. Our room was modern and comfortable, with a wonderful view at the Adriatic sea. The hotel is situated in a beautiful parc. We, especially our children, enjoyed the swimmingpool very much; it was ideally situated, half in the sun, half in the shadow of pine-trees. The restaurant of the hotel is also very good.

“Very relaxed athmosphere with nice service!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 September 2009

There's a difference in room quality in terms of design and quality, but this is nicely compensated with the very open and friendly staff of the hotel.
The garden is wonderful and it creates an oase of quietness: beautiful terraces, nice swimming pool.

To be short a very nice stay!
