“Reasonably quiet location but poor bathroom”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 October 2011

Our company uses this hotel regulalry for business, and my colleagues recommended it. We arrived late, and check in was fast and friendly. The staff get 5 stars. Parking not a problem.

My room looked out the front and had a sea view, which was not much use in October. Shame. You also hear train noise in the night; well it sounded like a train. Even with the shutters down.

The room itself really let the hotel down (2 stars at best). Judging by the previous comments, I must have had a standard room. The beige carpet was VERY stained - I did not want to walk in bare feet on it, not sure if it was really clean. I do not know if why they do not shampoo the carpet - I have worked wonders on beige carpets with steam cleaning them in my house!

The lighting was so dark, I could not read a book. I would have needed a torch.

Thne there was the bathroom. Typical very old Italian. The shower cubicle was so small, and the way the doors folded, you could hardly get in! They also did not close properly, and I was afraid to break the glass to close them. The water was hot at 4:30 am when I showered - but the drainage is so poor, I had to stand in at least 3cm of dirty water the whole time - horrible.

Breakfast was simple, and it only starts at 7am - no good for an 8am start of a business meeting out of town! Egg boiler, but no eggs. Cappuccino was good, though. Did not eat in the restaurant, but the nice modern one was not open. Bar choice very poor - only 1 open red wine.

One very strange thing - took a taxi to a restaurant not far away and to the airport. When you get in the taxi, 10euro is on the meter already! The meter then starts running - so maybe they include coming to the hotel on the meter. Be warned. To Pescara airport cost 25 Euro without tip.

If I ever come back to Pescara area. I will not stay here, nor will I suggest to my colleagues to stay. We have other hotels with special rates, so will try them next time.

We stayed here for our honeymoon and what a great choice. The hotel was very peaceful and in a quiet location. The food in the restaurant was very good and not over priced.
The mini bus to the beach was really good (free) as waere the sun beds an umberallas.
We will be back for our anniversary.

“Another very enjoyable stay”

This was our third trip to the Villa Sporting and as enjoyable as the first, recent changes to the bar and outdoor dining area work well. A real place to relax –the only difficulty was choosing between the outdoor pool, spa or beach but you can do all in one day. We have never done half board but still dined at the hotel each evening and most lunch times. Food choices are uncomplicated and the menu can seem limited or unchanging over the course of a week but don’t be daunted by this – ask what else is available - there is always an additional selection of meat or fish which you can choose to have cooked almost any way you like. A very good standard of English is spoken by the staff - and on previous visits they were happy to recommend other establishments if you choose to eat elsewhere.
We in the past stayed in a superior room and if you want to splash out or are staying for 7 or more days then go for the superior or above but in the summer months you won’t spend much time in your room. There is a gap in the quality of decor between standard and superior however the rooms are very clean and it was lovely to be able to request a daily change of linen, even in standard accommodation.
In June there are mostly business travellers so no crowds for any of the amenities. Don’t go here if you are expecting to get on-site evening entertainment. We will be going back again.

Room Tip: request standard room with balcony if available

“Dreadful meal in the restaurant spoilt our stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 September 2010

The hotel itself was ok - the room was spacious with a huge balcony (we had upgraded) but I'm afraid a really terrible meal in the restaurant completely spoilt our enjoyment. The hotel is positioned sufficiently far away that walking to any other restaurants is not possible, and as we were tired after a long drive we opted to eat in. Having had a superb meal at another Romantik establishment in Belgium a few weeks previously, we hoped for similar standards - how wrong we were. The choice was limited to begin with - we skipped starters and went straight for main courses - mine was inedible - totally oversalted to the point of not being able to taste anything but salt for some time afterwards. I persevered with a few mouthfuls but had to give up. My partners meal (lamb I think) wasn't quite as salty, but the meat was very gristly and quite unappetising. The head waiter apologised and offered to replace the meal, but by that point my appetite was gone - he suggested some cheese which in fairness to him was a nice idea and we agreed to that. The steak was removed form the bill but the cheese added - I can never be bothered to argue about this so just paid and we left the next morning - somewhat wiser to the Romantik chain - don't judge all their hotels by the standard of one, would be our conclusion.
