We have been truly blessed to have visited our Italy almost every year for the past 50 years. Not motivated to 'tour' any longer, we decided to make our October visit to only the Versilia region along the northeastern Tuscany Coast. We spent 3or 4 years 'interviewing' hotels until we discovered Il Negresco, a truly remarkable little hotel with a big heart and truly remarkable staff.

Sitting right on the Lungomare with views of the sea and the mountains of the Garfagnana and Carrara where one can see the quarry Michelango's marble came from, less than and hour from Florence, Viareggio, Pisa, Cinqueterra, Genoa, Camogli, Portofino, Santa Margherita Ligure and many other wonderful places, Il Negresco is a wonderful place to come 'home' to.

The rooms are lovely, well furnished and have more storage than any hotel we've stayed at. Two years ago, Simonetta Pelligrini, the general manager, insisted on accompaning me to a bank that refused to cash my traveler's checks. She made sure they did. Laura Paolini, the reservations manager, bends over backwards to please. Roberto, the concierge, Filipo and Rodolfo behind the reception desk, Dora Bianchi, the head housekeeper are truly dedicated to making our stay confortable and truly special. Everyone has a smile on their face. C'e una cosa piu bella di questo hotel, le persona che vi lavorano!! See you all Il prossimo Ottobre.

My wife and I stayed at the Negresco for 10 nights in September and returned to the UK on the 1st October. Forte de Marmi is a wonderful place with a fantastic beach and roads and cycle paths to ride around at your leisure with bikes hired from the Hotel. Everything was shutting down for the winter when we were there and on our last day on the beach in fantastic sunshine we had the whole beach to ourselves-parasol beds chairs , table and towels provided (payable at hotel 30 Euros at the time we were there but 60 earller). We visited Florence and Lucca on the train which was very enjoyable. As far as the Hotel is concerned In dont know how much room the other people who quoted want but it was super with large bathroom Queen Bed and balcony overlooking the great beach with sunsets to die for??? The staff were all very friendly and helpful and felt happy to reward them on our departure ( and I dont tip unless they deserve it?) We had half board and the food was excellent never had so much fish? but they do not know how to cook vegetables properly. Only one other comment was that the bar area was a tad small and not really intimate for a quiet drink- but the the wine and drinks were not over priced! Happy to recommend and would return to Forte de Marmi and the Negresco Hotel.

Our family visited the Il Negresco and we should have listened the TA-comments on extremely small rooms. The rooms are cluttered in layout and worn-out in condition.
The attitude of the staff was unbeliveable: most of them had almost hostile attitude towards children and we didn't feel comfortable at the hotel. Some persons were nice, even though promises for the kid's welcome packages and play corners were not delivered.
Visit to Il Negresco was very sad experience!
Internet connection is far from high speed and it does not function with Apple-devices.
Only positive thing was the swimming pool, it is very nice and clean.

I stayed here for one week in May. Overall the hotel is acceptable however it is extremely overpriced for what it is offering. The room was very small and in need of a coat of paint. The furniture was dated and worn out. The best thing about the room was the breathtaking view from the balcony. The breakfast buffet offered a wide variety of options and was good. I ordered dinner to the room several times during my stay and each time it was just plain bad. The hotel also claims to offer many amenities. However most of these are "available on request" and the staff is not at all eager to accomodate. It made for an uncomfortable situation. The entire staff seemed unhappy and were not the least bit helpful when I enquired about nearby attractions and restaurants. I do not mind paying for quality but this hotel is average at best. Also, be aware that the price to use the bathing establishment across the street is not included in the room rate so be prepared to be overcharged yet again.
