“Average”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 September 2010

It seems most hotels in Europe need money spending on them and this hotel was no exception. It was probably a 2* rather than a 3*. The hotel staff spoke very little English and my Italian isn't very good either so that lead to a few communication problems.
Its ideally located in the centre of Fiuggi and we were there during a ten day festival which culminated in 'White Night'. The younger members of the hotel staff were clearly very eager to get off work early to enjoy the festivities, which included a bloke doing karaoke on the street outside the hotel and come dinner time if you had a couple of bites from whatever was in front of you you were lucky. It was funny to watch as Italians are usually very laid back. I went out to explore and enjoy the festivities that apparently culminated in fireworks - which sadly I missed. Warning the festivities do go on and on well into the early hours and are loud with a variety of music styles competing with one another.

The food was average as were the rooms. In true Italian style service was a bit slow. The first night we had turkey and fennel it was nice but looked a little anaemic. Apart from the fennel there was a distinct lack of vegetables. I have come to the conclusion that Italians don't do vegetables. They did their best to cater for the various dietary requirements but for the Vegetarians in our party they must have got fed up with omelette by the end.

“Better than expected!”

Not long returned from coach tour where we stayed in this hotel as a base with Leger holidays. After reading the reviews on here i was very wary but found the hotel clean the staff friendly mainly and had no problems with service from the bar or the dining room.
Sometimes people respond better if you try to embrace their culture after all it is their country. Breakfast was ample very sweet orientated as the mediteranian diet often is, it is better to savour local foods. In the evening the meals i had were lovely and served with a smile, So enjoy if you go,do not expect it to be same as home though.

“If there were provision for MINUS 10 ** this would receive it from me!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 September 2009

Yes,FIUGGI is an excellent base for touring the great sights of Italy, particularly Rome, and Fiuggi is a beautiful small town with GREAT hotels, BUT the Imperiale is definitely NOT one of them! Went on this trip with Leger but definitely will not be using them again (that is totally another story).

I have visited Fiuggi many times and stayed in great hotels (the Fiori and the Centrale being TWO of the BEST) but the Imperiale is awful.

One of the reception staff has very limited English and she is only there overnight, and NONE of them know how to smile, unfortunately - in fact they come over as downright hostile. This is very unusual, as I have always found that most Italians are very welcoming even if they cannot speak English. I can only presume that they all must have some sort of gripe with their employers and take it out on the clientele. I had to complain at the way the key was literally thrown across the reception desk at me and the next day I did receive a, "Bongiorno, signora" but that is a far as it went.

The breakfast fare is awful, mainly stale rolls and bread ( and I know for a fact that the same croissants were served up for three days on the trot, as I deliberately poked a fork into one of them and it was still on the tray 2 days later!) The toaster only worked at usually the third time of trying and the drinks machine served up cold tea and coffee, but, best of all, there is a dreadful woman in charge of the dining room with glasses slung around her neck, who is the epitome of the old, strict headmistresses of yesteryear - grim, unsmiling, putting on her glasses and silently, rudely pointing to tell you where to sit. A lovely welcome each morning, I don't think! We did not bother to try any other meals as they were charging 20 Euros for what looked like a very limited menu and having sampled the breakfasts decided to give them a miss. In any case there are many great eating places in Fiuggi at far cheaper prices.

It was extremely noticeable that the Italians staying there were treated with far more respect and friendliness - what a way to ensure they have repeat visits from other nationalities. I do reiterate that this is very odd as the people of Fiuggi are very friendly and do their best to communicate and go out of their way to help.

Actually, the whole ambience of this hotel was 'miserable' - a great pity as it is in a lovely location.

To be fair to them the handling of luggage was good, the rooms and bathrooms were very
clean but very cramped and we had a nasty view at the back! However, the hot water supply was excellent, plenty of towels and the showers good, if rather cramped in very narrow baths. The air conditioning system was also excellent.

All in all I do NOT recommend this hotel - there are plenty more far superior ones in Fiuggi as already mentioned.

“Fantastic location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 November 2008

We have just returned from a 6 night stay at the Hotel Imperiale in Fiuggi. This was as part of a coach holiday with Ledger Holidays .
Overall I would rate the hotels location as excellant, being almost in the centre of this small town which makes a great centre for visiting Rome,Pompeii and the Bay of Naples.
The facitities are clean and adequate our twin room being a little on the small side
.Unfortunatley I can not say the same for the food.Breakfast consisted of dry bread, cake, biscuits, cheap cornflakes, yoghurt, jams and occasionally cold scrambled eggs(which one day had a deffinate green tinge to them). this was presided over by a matrionally lady who constantly scowled at guests over her spectacles! It took a brave person to ask for a clean cup!! I believe evening meals at 20 euros were as bad as breakfasts, but we prefered to eat in town.
That aside it was a wonderful holiday in spite of the rain and I would stay at this hotel again if only for location(as some where a long walk out of town)
