“Nice Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 October 2011

While visiting Trapani/Erice without a hotel reservation we tripped across the Baia dei Mulini. As the name implies it's located on a nice beach about 3 - 5 kms from Trapani's old town and 2 kms from the cable car that accesses Erice.

The room we had was large, in good condition with a small balcony albeit a bit old fashioned. The room came with a free b'fast which was easily the best one we had in a 3 week holiday spanning Sicily and the Amalfi Coast.

“Very nice stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 September 2011

I was at this hotel for 10 days and got on really well. It was a perfect spot, out of town but not far either, but you needed the car anyway to avoid having to wait for the bus respectively a taxi service. Since we went there to not only swim but also travel a bit around Sicily as well, so we rented a car anyway.

The hotel was at the beach that was meant for only hotel guests so there were not lots of people there because the hotel was not so big. There was also a swimming pool there and it suited us fine as I very much like a swim in the sea (not in the pool) while my daughter and her two children preferred to swim in the pool most of the time. In this way, we were all satisfied, I with the sea just outside the hotel and they with the pool near the beach.

We had two rooms, in one I was, in the second my daughter with children. What was perfect was that both rooms was next to each other and had a door between, so we could be together all the time and did not have to run far from one room to the other in case one of us got a room farther away.

They were quite reasonable with fine and appropriate facilities. Nicely furnished with matching curtains. It was clean and really nice there. Air conditioning was there too so it was nice when we had spec. first day temperatures around 40 degrees.

Each room had no balcony it was only me who had a little one. Luckily, the mosquito net in the door so I slap to have mosquitoes in the room. My daughter does not have balcony, only windows and without mosquito nets, so she could not have open windows from not getting into mosquitoes.

Staff was nice too, and accommodating. Breakfast was a little so-so, but in any case it was to choose from, though such as cheese was the same all the time and scrambled eggs could be a bit nicer, also boiled eggs could be not just cold.

Internet was not in the room, I had to go to reception if you wanted to surf, but there was free access in all cases and it worked great.

There were however problems were with their electricity or rather outlet. In Italy they have spec electrical sockets at all, but in this hotel was even more special. In the rooms there was only one outlet in the bathroom and a room that was a little difficult to access. Plus it was difficult to get the adapter for the hotel were not that many available. I had to wait several days to became one vacant when the guests went away. Meanwhile, I download for example my computer in my daughter's room because she had an adapter there.

But the same we were really pleased to be staying at this hotel and if I would go to Trapani again, I would definitely stay at this hotel again.

“We had a very nice stay there”

We were on vacation in Sicily last month and spent a week at this hotel. We liked practically all about it. First of all the location: on the beach, with a bus stop right in front of the entrance gate (buses go every half an hour or so; 15 minutes and you're in the center of Trapani), a strand several miles long where we jogged every morning, a mini-market and a pizzeria around the corner. By the way, the mills (that's why the htl is called 'Mulini') look very beautiful in the coastline landscape. The pool area seemed very relaxing, but we don't normally use a pool if a sea is calm enough to swim in. The people staying at the hotel were Italians for the most part (I think in this area, unlike Taormina where we were last year, mostly Italians spend their holidays). But the reception staff spoke English so we didn't have any communication problems. From this hotel you can easily reach Erice, an little ancient town on the mountain with a Norman castle and old churches. A number 23 bus will take you to the funicular railway at the foot of the mountain. I must say the sights are really remarkable. Besides from Trapani you can take a bus to the Segesta Temple which is really the most beautiful Greek temple in Sicily (I've seen them all so I know what I'm talking about). There was one little inconvenience I feel I need to mention in this review. At first we were given a room less than standard in size, overlooking the restaurant and getting filled with all kinds of kitchen smells in the evening. I explained the situation to a receptionist and asked to check if it was possible for us to move to another room, and the next day we got a spacious room on the second floor in which we enjoyed the rest of our stay. Would I recommend this hotel? By all means.

“A Good stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 July 2011

Just returned from a short stay at this hotel. Really enjoyed all from the moment we reached the hotel. Reception staff were helpful and polite even though there was no check in until 3pm. Our room was very clean, wonderful air conditioning at 16c which was really needed in July outdoor temperatures and a good double bed with extra pillows provided at our request. The room came equipt with plenty of toiletries and a safe and a mini-bar (though caution is advised with the prices ie 13euro for a small bottle of proscecco! There was no view from the room which we expected and this was not a worry as we had no intention on staying in the room for lengthy periods.
The pool was really well run by Mattia with towels provided free daily and he even moved our loungers according to the sun when we left to freshen up!
The restaurant was good although a little on the expensive side but service was good and overall the food was typical of the area plenty of fish/shellfish and regional pasta. When visiting Trapani most restaurants were of a similar pricing and those in the cheaper range reflected the price.
We walked to the town of Trapani from this hotel reminder this is in Erice Mare! The distance seemed longer that previous reviewers and we walked at a good steady pace into town along the promenade - duration was at least an hour. Note for those of a nervous disposition there are many, many wild dogs along the route. At one location approx 20 mins from the hotel beside a disused hotel site there were over 20 dogs lying lethargically in the sun! But at night they roamed and caused a little distress on returning to the hotel.
We recommend heading on the cable car to Erice which is about 40 mins walk from the hotel (not dawdling).
There is a Spar supermarket across the road of the hotel which was useful for provisions and water and along side this there is a family restaurant "Restaurante Pegasso" which offered typical sicilian fare with a litre of wine for 7 euro.
I would recommend this hotel for a short sun break (with a great pool sun loungers free by the beach) Most visitors were Italian or Sicilian and Italian was needed everywhere to communicate! We wouldn't hesitate in returning for a 3-4 day break again!

“Reasonable but not great...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 May 2011

We holiday regularly and are average Joe's who like a clean and well maintaned hotel in a good location but are happy to overlook some of the more trivial things people seem to write on their reviews. It seems like this hotel was just 'waking up' from its winter slumber and to be honest we felt like we were getting in the way of the staff and their chats/coffee etc. and we have never exeperienced anything quite like it. The hotel is about a 45 minute walk along a coastal road from Trapani, its quite a walk but there is a bus that goes from the hotel regularly till 9pm, we bussed in for dinner and got a taxi home. There is a Spar over the road and a couple of local restaurants but thats it. The pool is clean and right on the beach and there are sunbeds and parasols on the beach, apparently towels are provided if you ask for them. The bedrooms are sparse but clean and funcitonal but there are NO BALCONIES to sit out on - there are some rooms with a balcony but they are not large enough for 1 chair. This was a big problem for us, we had periods of bad weather and during these times we can wile away hours just sitting reading on the balcony with a bottle of wine. Its a bit like a prison cell without one. Breakfast is continental only, the same every day but it was average, we didn't stay at the hotel for any other meals, the staff gave us no incentive to. There is a bar but its hard to find someone to serve you. To sum up its good that it is on the beach and I'm sure had we travelled in the height of summer it would have been a different place but unfortunately the staff did not excel at any time, the rooms were basic and the location is a bit too far out so we wouldn't readily recommend it.
