La Pineta's stone cottages in a mountainside pine forest just alongside ancient Erice's walls were simple but comfortable -- and for us, looking 30 years later to re-trace our wedding trip, which in 1981 began in Erice (a town consecrated to Venus in antiquity), La Pineta was the "novelty" that topped our honeymoon hotel experience.
The rooms have the core amenities, and were spacious if somewhat spartan in furnishing; the terrace, overlooking the azure Mediterranean and the mount of San Vito lo Capo, was perfect for idle morning repose under the sun. Breakfast was certainly adequate. And all this for €65 for two? A marvel!
The staff at the reception were very warm and welcoming (and were, during our stay, the only personnel we saw, save for the breakfast waiter). And the establishment has some parking spaces for its guests--much to be thankful for in a town adamantly ancient in its atmosphere.
