“Castello di Casiglio”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 September 2011

Castello di Casiglio, founded in the X century is located in a green area of Brianza, near Como Lake, in what is now the park. In 1985, the castle was completely restored and expanded, without changing the medieval style. At present the building of the castle is used as a hotel. Originality and elegance of each room impresses tourists every year. Each room of the castle-hotel is furnished in its own style.

The castle stands on a hill Casiglio facing the main entrance on the north-west, which was typical of the forts and fortifications of the Middle Ages.

In the fourteenth century Castello di Casiglio was a favorite place to visit Milan Consul. The building of the castle was completely renovated and restored, and the neighborhood began to be used peasants to farm work, which led to the expansion of the castle. It was during this time period the floors of the castle were rebuilt without losing the original structure. The ceilings of the castle was decorated by picturesque murals, which paid great attention during the Restoration.

The castle was reconstructed several times and passed from hand to hand to various aristocratic clans within millennium. It was used as a fort, but as a country residence. After a fire in the XVIII century the original tower has been rebuilt.

The castle has a huge collection of works of art. The paintings, medieval costumes and armor, weapons, books, coins - all that remained in the castle so far.
However, many works of art and valuables were lost during the war.

Nowadays, the castle was restored completely and converted into a hotel. Feature of the interior of the castle was a medieval fresco, which was repeatedly restored. All rooms of the castle remained as they were in the Middle Ages, preserved medieval style.

“Beautiful property”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 November 2010

We had the good fortune to stay at Castello di Casiglio in October when we were in Italy scoping out wedding properties in Northern and Central Italy for our clients. We were assessing the properties as wedding planners and also as guests. If you are looking for a beautiful location to host a wedding, look no further particularly if you've always dreamed of a fairytale wedding. This is an authentic castle with all of the trappings still in place in this historic location near Lake Como. Please be sure to look at our own photos of this property to understand what makes Castello di Casiglio so special.

There are a lot of upgrades at this property that are not found elsewhere and when they say that their rooms are junior suites, they are in fact junior suites with a separate seating area and tvs with english speaking stations. The bathrooms have heated towel racks and chromatherapy lighting along with a tub for two to die for. The only negative is that as is typical of many historic buildings, there can be steps where you least expect them. I was so in love with the view that I walked to the window when we first arrived in our room and completely missed the 4" step about a foot from the window. Taking a nosedive out of the window could truly put a damper on your trip so consider yourself forewarned.

You can host your wedding in a variety of locations at this property. Literally the options are too numerous to mention here. Rest assured however, that there are indoor and outdoor locations that are equally gorgeous.

The restaurant is beyond incredible at this location. Please be sure to sample the potato soup. It was easily one of the best food items I tasted on our entire trip through Italy. While the food in general is truly exceptional in this country as a whole, the potato soup at Castello di Casiglio stands out as one of the best.

Laura who is part of the Banquet Department was absolutely top notch. She gave us a very thorough tour of the property including taking us to the top of the castle's tower which is now set up as part of a bridal suite. The top floor acts as a lounge and would be a perfect meeting location for the bridal party before and after the wedding and overlooks the beautiful Lake Como area.

If you're looking for that truly magical place to hold your wedding or rekindle a bit of romance, look no further than Castello di Casiglio. As a disclaimer, we are not affiliated with Castello di Casiglio and we offer this as an honest review of the property from our perspective and because it can be very difficult for a bride to find that information about a property she's interested in on websites such as this.

“Spooky but beautiful hotel with interesting character!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2010

We stayed while exploring the lakes. Hotel was quiet as off season but it was still a pleasant hotel. Set in a series of old buildings with corridors of antique furniture the place feels like a spooky atmospheric hotel from
a Sherlock holmes novel with an Italian background! The room was adequate and clean. The bathroom was great - excellent shower power! We had dinner - several courses with wine - fine and good value.

“Avoid this dump”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 September 2010

Scary place with dirty, dim and desperate rooms.
Complained one night about everything and got moved to a "suite": even the topmost room is a mere 3 star with horrible beds, telephone wires all over the place etc etc.
One too many so called castle with no historic importance whatsoever.
Stay away even if you have to sleep in your car.

“Highly recommend, you do need a car though”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 August 2010

I stayed here for 2 nights in August 2010. I instantly loved the castle building and found the staff very friendly and helpful. All were excellent at speaking English. They showed us to our room on the 3rd floor, in the attic. The 3 windows were at floor level with one velux in the roof, I was not happy at all. I immediately asked to be moved to one with normal windows and they accomodated my request. It did have single beds and they did say they would make them into a double but that never happened. The evening meal was 30 euros per person for 2 courses plus wine and coffee. I would recommend having a car if you stay here as there is plently of free parking and it is about 10-15 mins drive away from Lake Como. We would have felt isolated in a beautiful castle surrounded by busy roads without one. I got the impression that buses are infrequent.
There was an italien wedding on the day of our arrival and at times the staff were preoccupied with dealing with that. Apparently, weddings are typically on Wednesdays!
The swimming pool is lovely and there is a poolside bar too. There were comfortable sun loungers and peaceful grounds surrounding you ... this was my favourite part of my stay! The only downside is the church nearby chiming every 15 mins! There is no chance of a lie in, you know when it is 6.00am, 6.15am, 6.30am, 6.45am etc etc. Don't let that put you off though, grab some ear plugs instead, I would definately stay again! x
