We chose the Royal for it's central location and went 3* as it was the only Hotel in the brochure which did B&B as we wanted to eat out each evening and try differant restaurants.
I think this could be a great hotel. The location is great. The decor is sad. Each room is differant as we tried 3 during our 7 night stay. Our first room was okay, the furnishings were heavy and badly designed and bathroom needed updating. On our return to our hotel on the 3rd day we were informed that the ceiling in our room had collapsed onto our things and they had moved us to another room next door. This room had Pine cupboards floor to ceiling was dark and felt grubby. The bathroom hadn't been updated since the 1970's, was not of quality and the shower head had been chewed by a pet and left for the next customers, also the bathroom door had claw scratchings where they must have locked it up. Also on moving rooms we were now above a 'cellar bar' which played loud and drumming music to 4am. This time we requested a move, we were given a delightful room, which was at the back, it was bright, had a veranda, clean bathroom with a window, although still with cheap fittings. If we had just of had the first room it would have been fine, if we had been given the 2nd room for the whole of the stay, our review would have been awful. If we had been given the 3rd room from day one our review would have been better. However all rooms did have mechanical safes and we did go out of the hotel for our breakfast on 2 mornings for a change.
