“There must be better hotels in this town”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 July 2011

Traveling with a tour company we had to stay here for one week. Avoid it if you can! Rooms are good size but our mattress had a small soil, the sheets were clean, but usually had small holes. The central AC was non existent, to get fresh cool air you have to open the terrace glass door, but then you are letting the wasps into your room. The mini refrigerator stopped working towards the end of our stay, and they "fixed" it by unplugging the cord from the wall outlet where the TV was connected, so consequently the TV ceased to operate then. Not that it mattered much, because the TV was very small, the reception was bad, the sound extremely low, and of course the selection of channels terrible.
The front desk staff was polite and helpful, but it took three complaints until they got the AC working in our room. Unfortunately it only lasted 2 days, because it appeared that they were rotating the AC operation among different floors and wings.
The restaurant food was good, but in the morning some days they would open the room 15 minutes late, while we all stood up around waiting. And when the front desk staffer would go in to hurry them up, the waiters would get mad and throw them out.
There must be better hotels in this pretty town! The Tuscany though was breathtaking!

“Staff needs a lesson in hospitality”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 May 2011

The Grand Hotel Ambasciatori is often used by tour companies (ours was Grand Circle) because of its central location for touring Tuscany. The hotel rooms are small which is common in Italy, but one should be aware that you might be stuck in a room overlooking a dumpster and porta potty. Ours was so far from the wireless access that we had to use our computer in the lobby instead of in our room as it was advertised. We also had the kitchen directly below us. The cigarette smoke and noise from the staff was relentless.

The most positive thing I can say about the hotel is that the rooms were kept immaculate by the maids. They did a fabulous job. The worst thing about the hotel was the attitude of the dining and reception staff. They clearly do not like Americans; rude service, unfriendly, not welcoming, and no smiles. I guess I can understand that not all guests in tour groups are easy to deal with, but most of us were pleasant and were ready to engage the Italian staff in conversation and good humor. This important part of the hospitality industry seems very basic to me.

The Ambaschiatori is located perfectly for touring Tuscany which is one of the most beautiful places on earth. Just be warned that if you are visiting from America you may not feel entirely welcome.

“Worse hotel we've ever stayed at in Italy”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 February 2011

The rooms are miniscule & shabby. The front desk personnel arrogant and not helpful. The shower allows water to splash all over the floor. Single rooms are reminiscent of SINGLE dorm rooms at college 40 years ago...I could go on and on...just find a NICER place to stay...our tour company must be trying to save money. I would classify this place a one-star dump. It is not located close (walking distance) to the "Old Town" where the better restaurants are located. The buffet breakfast was ok except the bacon is never thoroughly cooked(yuk!!)

“Good value, friendly 4* star”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 July 2010

The Ambasciatori is a good standard 4* hotel. The staff are very friendly and unfailingly helpful. Food was very adequate is not spectacular and plenty of it. You don't get ripped off with expensive drinks, Most wines were around 12 euros and cocktails 4 euros.
Breakfast was opened early at 0630 for my small aprty as we had a 7am departure to Rome for the day. The rooms a bit small but up to standard. Towels and bedding changed every day.

The rooms are quite small and could do with updating, however they are very clean and the food and service was very good. The hotel is close to shops and local buses to get you to the old town and beyond.
