“quite good for its stars”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 June 2011

We only spent one night there, but were quite pleased with the hotel. The room was decent sized and had an ok bathroom as well. The furniture was old, but the room looked freshly painted and it was all clean. We enjoyed having a room towards the back since we got a good sized terrace to ourselves. It had a sun lounger and a chair and a table. Another chair would have been good, but we used one from the room and enjoyed sitting outside a little. We had no problem with noise, but I’m not sure who many guests they had that night. Breakfast was amazing for someone who loves sweets, it seemed like half a pastry shop and was more than I would expect at a two star hotel. We also were quite pleased with a friendly reception.

“2 star hotel but with friendliest people:)”

I stayed in the hotel from1st-5th May. It is a 2 star hotel but it was clean, in a very convinient location ( 7 minutes walk with an amazing view to the centre). The stuff were so friendly and lovely that I am going back there again next week:). I did not stay in the hotel much as there are so many places to see in Cefalu so if you want a cheap place to crush and smiley people there go for this hotel 100%

“Incredibly noisy”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 April 2008

I thought this would be perfect - a pleasant walk out of town with easy parking. What a mistake. It is one of the noisiest hotels I have ever stayed in.
First of all I was given a room at the back overlooking a bit of scrubland, even though only a few of the sea-facing rooms were occupied. The management seemed to give rooms at the front to Italians and those at the back to those from other countries.
When I got back to the room about 10.30pm, there was quite a bit of corridor noise and people talking in adjacent rooms until about midnight. From then on I could very clearly hear the man next door snoring - even though I had earplugs.
When I went into the bathroom the next morning I could hear every word the lady was saying next door - I could even translate some of her German!
That's not the worst of it - not by a long way. At about 5.30am, there started an intermittent banging and an occasional, loud roaring sound, like a train going past (it wasn't). This quickly developed into what sounded like someone completely rearranging the furniture in their room - scraping and banging.
I went to investigate and it was coming from below, where the restaurant/kitchen area was, though I still couldn't find the culprits as doors were locked.
Then at 6.15am, with the banging and scraping carrying on, they decided to put on the TV or radio loudly as well.
If they treat their own paying guests this way, I wouldn't like to be their enemy!
And when I checked out I was greeted by two little Yorkshire terriers yapping away at my ankles
I didn't even bother with breakfast - I just wanted to get out of here and have a sleep in the car!

“Good if you're on a budget and not fussy”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 September 2007

We spent 6 days in the Pescatore in August. I would recommend if you are looking for a budget hotel and don't intend spending much time in your hotel room.

The decor in the rooms is shabby and dated but the bathrooms were good and very clean. The air conditinoing was old and noisy. All balconies with sea views face the busy road mentioned in the other review. It is impossible to sit and relax on your balcony (all of which are very big) unless you have ear plugs as all the mopeds are zipping past constantly. It is also difficult to sleep late as the noise starts early in the morning. I found it very disturbing so I asked to change to a room at the back of the hotel, which I thought would be quieter. I asked at reception (with the help of a kind Italian lady to translate) and even though I had someone who was willing to swop rooms with me she refused to change me. I was told my room was 'bella bella' and the noise wouln't be as bad going forward. This was not particularly helpful and left me really frustrated.

The breakfast was poor, bad quality greasy pastries, fine coffee and carrot juice (?) and most mornings there was none even of that left when we got down.. However the shop next door sells excellent pastries, coffees and fresh orange juice so for a few euro we got a lovely breakfast (a pity that we had already paid for the hotel breakfast though!).

It was nice to be out of the centre of cefalu which was hotter and the walk is a very manageable one that we did twice a day.

Although there was no fridge in the room the shop downstairs sells drinks and is very reasonable. This meant that we spent very little money on drinks and snacks compared to what we would have spent in a classier hotel.

“Noisy but unique”

Stayed in this hotel in Aug 2007. Room was quite old fashioned but clean and spacious. Balcony views are beautiful (if you are high enough!) and breakfast was simple but nice pastries. Problem is that the hotel is located on busy roundabout and is a hive of activity with the local icecream shop/bakery proving to be very popular with the locals. Saturday morning market had everything for sale and was extremely busy and noisy! We enjoyed this aspect although others may not. Also it is a 15 min walk to the town centre. However, beautiful scenery along the way. Friendly staff.

  • Liked — Not very touristy - real local atmosphere and delicious icecream
  • Disliked — Noise of mopeds on busy roundabout
