“Unusual hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 October 2011

Although the hotel was built in 1966, its decor was a little art decor and reminiscent of the old American movies set well before this date that I watched growing up and might of started as a 5 * hotel because of its setting and grandiour. It felt for me that it was a German owned hotel run overall for Germans. Everything was very good and the highlight was having an evening meal sitting on the terrace with wonderful views listening to the sound of the waves with a full moon. However we did find some of the staff very unfriendly and the walk to town took a good half hour through a fairly unpicturesque area with a few barking unfriendly dogs (thankfully behind fences) which was a little unnerving.

“Much Better than I Expected”

This hotel is pretty, clean and comfortable with a nice beach. We stayed here for 2 nights in September. We arrived in Palemro after a long flight from JFK. We took the bus, train and cab to the hotel. The trip went well. Hotel Kalura was the perfect place to relax after the long trip. I liked the look of the place, the beach, the breakfast. Whoever wrote that the halls smelled moldy must have been a competitor. The walk to Cefalu was a little far but the beach was worth the trade off. Definitely eat at Cova di Pirato in Cefalu. It had the best food, house wine and price of our 2 week trip to Italy.

some of the things said about this hotel I do find too harsh this is a very nice three star hotel not trying to be anything else with lovely helpful friendly staff.
Yes its need of a little tender loving care but I knew this before going so knew what to expect.we had a superior double room with a small balcony and drop dead gorgeous views an ensuite bathroom with shower. There is an in room safe big enough to fit my lap top and free wfi with a strong connection in my room. The pool is huge and very clean with plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas the sun is on the pool all day long right up to about 6.30 in the evening. The beach hard standing or small pebbles is down a flight of steps a young gentleman will put up deck chairs and an umbrella for you there is a small bar shop selling soft drinks beer and ice cream. you can either enter the sea from the beach or from steps.Great snorkeling.Breakfast good with pure fruit juices tea coffee bread jams chocolate , plenty of different pasteries meats boiled eggs and salad everything was fresh and replaced frequently. You can either take a short bus ride into town or walk in about 20 minutes into the old town with plenty of resauarnts shops ETC.
A lovely lady runs the dive centre on the grounds of the hotel and good english skills and understanding.
would I stay here again yes.
Not suitable for disabled people and may cause too many safety issues if you had very young children.

“Fantastico”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2011

Just back from a wonderful week in Cefalu. The hotel exceeded my expectations. I was a little nervous after reading some negative reviews. For a reasonably priced 3 star hotel the Kalura cannot be topped. Truly magical views, private beach, big swimming pool, tennis court, super friendly staff a more than adequate buffet breakfast. Of course if you stay at a seaside hotel and want the best experience book a room with a seaview ours on the 3rd floor was lovely, clean, airy and a big comfortable bed. For us the location was perfect a pleasant 20 minute stroll into town (beware a house with a barking German Shepard which made us jump a couple of times) when we didnt fancy the walk a bus runs from outside the hotel for 1.10 euro and a taxi is 10 euro. Cant wat to go back.

Room Tip: Get one with a seaview.
