“unfriendly owner's”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

clean hotel,high-quality breakfast, in very good location but old furniture, carpet and bedlines in the room, the sofa bed quite impossible to sleep on it.We heard every time when somebody was opening the wardobe's door in his room. It was like an earthquake! Stinking channel smell every morning in the bathroom. Very high temperature in the room, missing thermostat.

unfriendly, impolite owner's, maybe except the younger daughter one. Once the owner's lady (the mother) opened our room without knocking. She came to check something, but she couldn't said what, because she didn't speak English. The whole family was conceited.

“If you are after skiing in winter or golfing/hiking in summer - hotel Petrus might be the right choice for you!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2011

Just got back from our September holiday in northern Italy. Couldn't resist to stop at the Hotel Petrus and to spend 5 nights there. Of course, there was no other option for my fiancee and myself than to stay in a "Romance Suite". The suite has a bathroom incl. jacuzzi plus separate shower. Toilet can be found in a separate room (which I considered to be useful...). Main room was fairly spacious, sufficient room to store clothes available. Furthermore, two massage-chairs provide appropriate comfort in front of the telly.

The owner family Aichner (particularly don't miss their three fairly pretty daughters - the alpine air of the Dolomites appear to do a decent job) is very welcoming and caring. For breakfast, a wide selection of bread, jam, charcuterie, cheese and fruit is offered and "le chef de cuisine" is able to conjure up the most delicious scrambled eggs in the Dolomites. I would highly recommend to shoot for the Bircher-Musli, which is second to none. There would be bites offered in the afternoon too, however, we missed them most of the time hence are not able to judge. However, I recommend to include dinner when you book: Food is delivered in a quality you could expect from a 13 - 14 Gault Millau-points rated restaurant. Particular fun is the "kitchen party" where you have the starters in the kitchen of the restaurant. Furtermore, a "gourmet dinner" is served once a week on request. The 5-6 course menue is accompanied by the matching wine per course (they will charge you an additional EUR 30.00 for this - but given the fact that the wine is included, this surcharge appears to be reasonable).

Furthermore, Family Aichner knows the area very well. They take the time requried to give tips and hints about where to travel. Also, they organise the transfer to golf court or ski-lifts as requested (for free) which I consider to be a pretty good service). Finally, they arrange different types of trips/activities on a daily basis - quite good fun!!

Finally, forgot to mention the sauna area: 3 different types of sauna, very relaxing climate, nicely designed, clean.

On the downside, I would like to mention the following:
Fitness room: Only consists of a power-plate-like tool and some home-trainers (which you can order into your room for a small surcharge). Haven't seen any decent workout equipment (which I would expect from a ****-hotel)
Pool area: Well yes, there is a pool, but it is what you can see on the homepage - nothing more. Don't expect anything like indoor/outdoor pool incl. jacuzzi elements etc - it's just this small indoor pool. Have seen fancier stuff in the Tirol area and if your stay is focussed on "Wellness" (ie whirlpooling) there certainly will be better options than the Petrus.
Treatments: Well, I have booked this sport massage, but what I have experienced was more a "wellness treatment" than an actual massage (ie the tensed up muscles were not released...). I hope that the respective lady had just a bad day - I was not really impressed about the service provided which prevented the Hotel from further revenue...

Overall, I can recommend the Hotel Petrus to all those who are not too much focused on the wellness services provided. If you are after "some" wellness activities, then the facilities at Hotel Petrus will certainly suffice.

Room Tip: go for a "Romance Suite" facing the forest

“Excellent hotel in a great location for the ski area”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2010

Just got back from Kronplatz and have been really impressed by both the hotel and quality of the ski area .

In brief

The hotel .

Location excellent just 500 metres from the slopes and a comfortable 10 minute walk.

Food . Breakfast good choice of cerial , juice , rolls , meat ,cheese . There was also an egg chef but she wasn't great . Toaster a disaster . It took about 5 goes and about 5 minutes to toast one side of bread ( it wouldn't toast the other side ) . Overall pretty good.

Free salad buffet between 3pm and 5pm . Good standard .

Dinner . Very good . Salad buffet most nights was varied except for the dressings and of a good standard . Mains ,only once had a quibble when we were served trout with pieces of sprouts ! Other than that really enjoyable ! Always varied and sometimes very innovative .

The bar . Good but expensive .

Staff . Really professional and very friendly .Gave the hotel a really nice atmosphere .

Room . Excellent with a balcony and great view of the mountains . Bed comfortable . Bathroom great . My quibble would be that a hotel of this stature should have a bath in all its rooms !! Really missed not having one and a shower isn't an adequate replacement after a day on the slopes . Shame .

Kronplatz . Wow what a hidden gem .NO drag lifts !!! Mainly fast running gondalas ( even for the nursery slope) and the occasional chair lift . Skiing was varied and for blue/red run skiers like us ,simply excellent .We also had private tuition from the ski school with 3 different English speaking ski instructers . They were really good . The mixture of their tuition and the quality of the runs ,meant we really learnt fast . I was a blue run skier when I arrived , and left in a position to tackle the black runs ( didn't this time maybe next year !) . The pistes were immaculately looked after , no slush or ice to be seen ,everyday felt like powder day ! ( didn't snow once , but there were snow cannons everywhere ). Food expensive but over 60 restaurants in the ski area you'll never go hungary .

All in all a fantastic place for a weeks skiing . Only concern is that not many people seem to know about the place and I think only Neilsons currently go there . It would be a major shame if they didn't continue to do so . My advice is go to this hotel and you won't be disappointed !

“Perfect skiing holidays”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2010

Just returend from 8 day skiing holiday in Kronplatz where we stayed in hotel Petrus.
Hotel is located around 600 meters from main lift which takes you to the top of Kronplatz.
They offer free shuttle from 8.30 till 10.30 and return from 15.00. We found this service perfect.
The village where hotel is located in small village, good for afternoon walks, but no restaurants, bars or shopping. For that, you need to go to Brunico - nice small city, 5-6 min with the car or 50 min walking (did it once).
Hotel is a family run, you can feel the hospitality on every step. I can not agree with some reviews on this point.
Breakfast and dinner were very good - clever selection of local specialities (spices, cheese, meat), selection of wine is average (we are demanding about that), service in restaurant is also on high level.
Every day we went to sauna (3 different) and one time we tried massage - all services 5/5. We did not try the pool. We were lucky because hotel was not crowded that week, i can imagine SPA can get crowded.
You can use WiFi in the lobby or cable connection in the room, cost is i think 1.5 eur for 15 min.
They also have garage if you come with the car - as we did. Cost is 5 € per day.

“Friendly, slightly formal, full facilities”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 October 2009

Hotel sets a high standard for it's facilities. Sauna(s) are 1st rate. Swimming pool good (odd choice of plastic decor undid what could have been a nice environment). Rooms large, good bathroom, nice balcony (one glass divider was heavily cracked though) with meadow & woodland views of the mountain.
Food was excellent with attentive service.
"free" wi-fi was not free as required registration with Italian authorities and payment of a fee.
