Just got back from our September holiday in northern Italy. Couldn't resist to stop at the Hotel Petrus and to spend 5 nights there. Of course, there was no other option for my fiancee and myself than to stay in a "Romance Suite". The suite has a bathroom incl. jacuzzi plus separate shower. Toilet can be found in a separate room (which I considered to be useful...). Main room was fairly spacious, sufficient room to store clothes available. Furthermore, two massage-chairs provide appropriate comfort in front of the telly.
The owner family Aichner (particularly don't miss their three fairly pretty daughters - the alpine air of the Dolomites appear to do a decent job) is very welcoming and caring. For breakfast, a wide selection of bread, jam, charcuterie, cheese and fruit is offered and "le chef de cuisine" is able to conjure up the most delicious scrambled eggs in the Dolomites. I would highly recommend to shoot for the Bircher-Musli, which is second to none. There would be bites offered in the afternoon too, however, we missed them most of the time hence are not able to judge. However, I recommend to include dinner when you book: Food is delivered in a quality you could expect from a 13 - 14 Gault Millau-points rated restaurant. Particular fun is the "kitchen party" where you have the starters in the kitchen of the restaurant. Furtermore, a "gourmet dinner" is served once a week on request. The 5-6 course menue is accompanied by the matching wine per course (they will charge you an additional EUR 30.00 for this - but given the fact that the wine is included, this surcharge appears to be reasonable).
Furthermore, Family Aichner knows the area very well. They take the time requried to give tips and hints about where to travel. Also, they organise the transfer to golf court or ski-lifts as requested (for free) which I consider to be a pretty good service). Finally, they arrange different types of trips/activities on a daily basis - quite good fun!!
Finally, forgot to mention the sauna area: 3 different types of sauna, very relaxing climate, nicely designed, clean.
On the downside, I would like to mention the following:
Fitness room: Only consists of a power-plate-like tool and some home-trainers (which you can order into your room for a small surcharge). Haven't seen any decent workout equipment (which I would expect from a ****-hotel)
Pool area: Well yes, there is a pool, but it is what you can see on the homepage - nothing more. Don't expect anything like indoor/outdoor pool incl. jacuzzi elements etc - it's just this small indoor pool. Have seen fancier stuff in the Tirol area and if your stay is focussed on "Wellness" (ie whirlpooling) there certainly will be better options than the Petrus.
Treatments: Well, I have booked this sport massage, but what I have experienced was more a "wellness treatment" than an actual massage (ie the tensed up muscles were not released...). I hope that the respective lady had just a bad day - I was not really impressed about the service provided which prevented the Hotel from further revenue...
Overall, I can recommend the Hotel Petrus to all those who are not too much focused on the wellness services provided. If you are after "some" wellness activities, then the facilities at Hotel Petrus will certainly suffice.
