“Excellent Best Western Hotel and makes a good stop-over”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 November 2011

I made a room reservation there only to drive from Italy in to Austria during day time to enjoy the scenery and therefore just needed a stop-over accommodation for one night. On arrival I was unfortunately told that they do not have my booking at the Hotel which is has a sign outside saying 'Gruener Baum' but was instead referred to their 'main reception/hotel' (apparently more than one hotel belongs to the Best Western chain along the small river). It then turned out that they couldn't 'really' find my reservation either but I was offered a room anyway. The room was small but clean and had a nice little balcony overlooking the small river and the city - a pleasure to sit outside and see the world passing by. Therefore I decided to stay another two days but the room was already taken and I had to transfer to another room (without balcony this time) but things where going smoothly and they even moved my luggage to the other room. As the entire hotel seems to consist out of several - former individual - hotels it was only the second day that I found their indoor & outdoor pool but that alone was worth the money you'll pay for the room. Pool appears to be brand new (or close to) and you can just sit there, relax and enjoy watching the mountains. Beautiful place to say the least! Overall an enjoyable experience, extremely helpful reception staff, breakfast is excellent (and diverse) and this spot was definitely one of the hotel highlights within my six weeks across Europe. I would definitely go back there in case I'll be in this region again and would recommend everyone to stop by rather than rushing through to Austria from italy or viz (and as you are likely to have a car when coming to Bressanone/Brixen, there are some really nice castles and mountain views around as well).

Room Tip: Try to get room 214 (if you are single traveller). The balcony will make up for the room size

“Great choice in the heart of Brixen”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2011

This was our first trip to Brixen so we were pleased with the location right in the center of town with free, ample parking, allowing is to leave or take the car as we pleased. For the sites in Brixen itself one is well-placed to walk just about everywhere. I found the room to be very large and stylishly furnished, more in a traditional way which fits into the ambience of the town. Although the room was carpeted, it did not have a musty smell which is unfortunately often the case. Staff was extremely friendly both at reception and for breakfast. Wifi is available in the room at a reasonable cost, unfortunately not for free. As someone before me mentioned, one of the highlights of staying at this hotel is receiving the Brixen card which gives you free entrance to just about any museum you would want to see. And this includes many places in outlying areas, even 50 or more km away from Brixen. We saved a ton of money with this card. I would highly recommend this hotel.

“Now 3 years in a row and I plan to return again!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

In the last three years I have been going to this hotel I have been continually pleased. Now that they have introduced the Brixen card it is only getting better. The Brixen card will allow you access to many museums for free and other activities at a reduction. It even allows free travel on local trains!

Back to the hotel, the food is top quality offering both Italian and Tirolean specialties. In my last three visits I have not even ventured outside the hotel for food. All the food is served with beer or the lovely house wine Santa Magdalena or many or the other wonderful local wines.

All of this with a view of the alps, what more could you want?

Finally, not forgetting the staff who balance efficiency with friendliness. It always gives me great pleasure to see who I can only assume is the owner, an elderly lady dressed in traditional clothes who visits the restaurants visiting tables and greeting the guests.

There are a lot more facilities which I have not even started used... don't hestiate just book!

Room Tip: If you have the money, choose for the more luxurious rooms!

“Beautiful location, not so friendly staff”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 June 2011

This hotel is set in the beautiful town of Bressanone, Italy. For a city girl it is truly beautiful.

The hotel itself is very old and most furnishings are outdated. Upon check in I was given a double room on the other side of the building. The room itself was nice, but again very outdated. The room had no air conditioning so I had to leave the door open in order to get some air.

The area is so beautiful that all of the little things didn't matter. Until, I had no power. Apparently when you use an iron in your room you are supposed to only use it during the day when the lights are off. If you use it at night you will trip the breaker constantly. I was told to either iron my clothing in the morning or keep flipping the breaker on.

I asked for a different room that could support my ironing needs. The man that came to help me move was rude. The front desk was rude upon my asking for a new room.

The room they put me in was now in the other side of the building with air conditioning. However, their version of A/C is just blowing hot air. The room was weird too. Bed on one side, TV on the same side as the headboard. Just very odd.

Breakfast was good but limited room.

They are infested with silver fish in the warmer months. I had them crawling all over my bathroom.

Anyway, I wouldn't stay here again but check out the surrounding areas.

“staying in a hotel being a coach tour guest (a first for me)”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 September 2010

Our bus tour arrived quite late (after 22:00 p.m.)due to traffic jam. The owner of the hotel together with restaurant and kitchen staff were quite welcoming despite the hour of the evening. We were taken to the restaurant where we could dive into a very decent salad buffet and hot main courses plus dessert buffet. That was quite a cheering up.
Nothing to complain about the food during all week stay, beside the fact that the salad buffet as well as the dessert buffet was very much de same during the hole week. The dishes were ample and we could help ourselves to the salad buffet, followed by a second starter, a main course, and there was self service again to the dessert buffet, which included cheese and icecream. One could have a go to a second helping with the latter.

The bar would not be a place where you would want to linger for a nice evening either.

Everything was neat and clean in the hotel, rooms, bathrooms, swimming pool area, fitness area. A got a thank you note on the pillow from the cleaning lady, who appreciated the daily tipping... that was a first for me.

I found it quite disconcerting, that our group was served dinner at the very end of a long convenience annexe, not really in another building, yet separated from the guests in the real restaurant and furnished without any special charm.. although I did consider us not as cheap travellers (I might of course be wrong here, as I am not used to be part of a coach travel). We were served by rushing staff, who had to get drinks and food to us as fast as possible, enabling them to get back to the restaurant service. We appreciated the always kind and taking his time waiter "Werner".

2 very very tiny business centers containing a flat screen and a printer are at disposal of the customers, although there is no privacy due to glas doors and located in the mainstream corridor.

Hotel consists of several buildings, presumably added over the years, and quite long ways to walk to get from A to B and C and back. The elderly participants of our party felt the long distances quite strenuous.

The kindness of the staff in general depended very much of who was in charge, and who was dealing with you..
