This is a small family run hotel between Limone and Gargnano, just before the town of Gargnano on the main road. They have about 18 rooms, which were all renovated about five years ago. Typical of a 3* italian hotel, rooms are bright and clean, bathrooms also newly decorated, good water pressure in the showers, all rooms overlook the lake. Only the restaurant, with its balcony and sun terrace, is on the ground floor, the rooms go down below in three tiers overlooking the lake. As the hotel is situated up on top of the cliffs, there is no access to the lake. All rooms on the first tier have balconies, go down a floor lower and the rooms each have a small private patio. There are more rooms on a third level which are only accessable from the outside via their patios.
There´s a big tiered olive grove below the patios, extending to the cliff edge.
Breakfast is very good, fresh rolls, fruit, cheese ,ham ,salami, yoghurts, often homemade cake if there´s some leftover from the day before ( we had apple cake one day and a delicious dense nutty almond tart the next). Fruit juice and whatever you like to drink - no extra price for latte machiato for example, which I´ve often experienced in other hotels. Breakfast is served at the table individually (not buffet) and replenished as required. At one time they would also serve you breakfast outside on your patio at no extra charge, not sure if they still do.
Nice restaurant, serves pastas (homemade sauces) meat and fish dishes, various antipastis. No pizza. Can recommend the bressoala carpaccio and the gnocchi with gorgonzola which is served in a grilled cheese basket. One of the brothers cooks, the other brother and two sisters are occupied in the restaurant and reception. They seem to have a lot of local families for lunch at weekends and on bank holidays, always a good sign.
We´ve been coming here for 17 years and have always had a pleasant experience.
The only negative point is that it can be noisy if your room is under the restaurant (stools scraping on the floor), and also the sound of people passing your room in the corridor can be quite loud if they´re not considerate enough to keep their voices down.
Also to point out is that the hotel stands alone on the roadside, 2 or 3 km outside the town of Gargnano, if you go anywhere you really do have to take the car.
A room for three people (with double bed and sofa bed to sleep 1 or 2) costs €90 with breakfast or €70 without.
You can pay by visa, they now have a machine.
