I stayed at three hotels while on a bike tour of the northern mountains of Italy. The Hotel Baita dei Pini ranked last of the three. The hotel looks very nice and other folks on the tour had a good stay there. Unfortunately my stay was full of problems. I was traveling solo and the first room they gave me had a shared entrance with another family. The shower was missing a class panel which would make for a cold shower and a very wet floor. And, of course, the wifi was advertised to be throughout the hotel, but no signal in this room. So I asked if they had another room available. Which fortunately they did, but it was a single efficiency. You could practically lay across the width of the room and your luggage either went on the bed or the top of the desk. Not a big deal as I was solo, but I had paid for a much nicer room. Then after a long day of riding I come back for a nice hot shower, but find there is no hot water. Maintenance came and fixed the problem, but you really shouldn't have these issues with the rates they charge. They hotel is also located on a corner and the traffic noise was very loud at night as you needed to have the window open to cool the room.
The breakfast and dinner were good, but not great, and since we were a group (8 people at our table) the service was hurried and very impersonal. They took your order by raising your hand when the waiter asked who wanted one entree versus another. Drinks were hard to come by as well. We did not experience this at any other hotel.
So all-in-all I would say the Hotel Baita dei Pini was just average and there are better hotels to stay at in Bormio. Which I did when I returned to Bormio with my family two weeks later. I would recommend the Hotel San Lorenzo as an alternative...
