“Ascolane Perfection”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 December 2010

I've stayed numerous times at the Palazzo Guiderochi, an old palace converted into a hotel in Ascoli Piceno. The rooms are beautiful, spacious, comfortable, and modern. They have excellent AC in the summertime. The staff is extremely kind, accomodating, and speaks wonderful English. A computer is available in the lobby. They will assist you in parking your vehicle (which can be difficult in the tiny roads and squares of the area). Whether you are visiting to site see, staying over for business, or looking for a romantic get-away, this place is it!

One caution... no wireless, bring your own ethernet cable. The are willing to lend you a cable, but it is only 15 inches or so..... far too short.

“Access difficult but absolutely charming accommodations”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 April 2010

Palazzo Guiderocchi is a real palace in the old Rennaissance era center of the old city of Ascoli. It is extremely difficult to locate this hotel. My GPS went crazy trying to navigate through the narrow winding maze of streets. Even local residents, who knew where the palazzo was located, could not tell you how to get there by car, due to the complex maze of narrow one-way streets and alleys.

The palazzo is located on a small square that is typically packed with parked cars, motor scooters and bicycles. Parking anywhere in the vicinity is nearly impossible.

The interior of Palazzo Guiderocchi is old and spcious with a colonaded interior courtyard and marble staircases. Our room had 15 foot high (5 meter) ceilings with murals painted on the ceiling. The sitting room next door had frescos on the walls and ceiling and was furnished with antique furniture. The bathroom had all of the modern conveniences but would have certainly benefitted greatly from a shower curtain.

The hotel is just one block from the immense marble-floored and collonaded Piazza Popollo. This magnificent Rennaissance era Piazza is one of the most beautiful in all of Italy.

The restaurant located in the hotel is excellent. It served good traditional food from the local area and excellent wines. The prices were moderate.

If you are willing to brave the adventure of finding your way to this palazzo, you will be rewarded with charming and romantic accommodations at very reasonable prices.

“Find somewhere else !”

This potentially lovely hotel is ruined by location, attitude and
service : it is a tiny square with cars triple parked so you can
barely manouevre a car to the entrance where there is not even an unloading bay and the hotel garage is not onsite as expected but 250 metres away in an underground city park where they have an "arrangement". When I asked the receptionist what happens if its raining or you are old, she laughed. No help with luggage so we took the lift to find ourselves on a landing with 2 unmarked doors - both lead to function rooms, both in use for corporate meetings, so we had to make apologies and walk through to find our room. The meal at the hotel restaurant was memorably dire : the food was fine but the service was a joke. The one waiter, for 11 guests, should have managed fine but 2 friends of his came, so after a 20 minute chat in the kitchen, he then continued to ignore every other guest and have another 20 minute chat at their table. When eventually we got his attention,
he seemed surprised.

“Great location”

Eventually found the hotel (our sat nav does not appear to recognize one way streets). Very impressive building, great location. Room was large although a little dimly lit, good heating which is very important in December! Staff were friendly and helpful. Christmas menu at the restaurant was better than expected and good value for money. We booked in advance and got half price rates for 3 of the 4 days we stayed there so it was all quite reasonable, not sure if I would be quite so satisfied paying full rate for 4 days.

  • Liked — Great building
  • Disliked — Limited car parking space

“Large room, but disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2008

We had a deluxe room with two beds. The room was very large, with a generous entry and separate entrance to the room itself and the bathroom (which was not a priority for us). The room had a vaulted ceiling with wood beams.

The room was very dimly lit, even with all window coverings aside and all lights on. The bathroom was huge, but the shower had extremely poor water pressure.

Our room was also adjacent to the lift (which is a good size); it was noisy late at night and early in the morning.

The hotel has a restaurant with very good, reasonably priced food. However, the posted dinner hour was 19:30, but they did not actually open until 8pm.

The breakfast room is very small for a hotel of this size, less than half the size of those of similarly sized hotels we stayed in. The selection is also less than what we found elsewhere.

The architecture of the room, along with the size, did not (for us) make up for its shortcomings.

  • Liked — The size of the room
  • Disliked — Very poor water pressure in the shower
