“Enjoyable but disappointing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 September 2009

We paid for a sea view room and were not disappointed as the Club Hotel occupies a lovely position overlooking the bay. For a four star rated hotel though we were disappointed. The room was small and basic but what it lacked in luxury was compensated by cleanliness. We had fresh bath towels and beach towels and bed linen every day and there was lots of hot water for showers and baths.

The staff were friendly and we were well looked after especially our little boy at meal times.

The private beach was disappointing. It is a short walk around the bay with hardly any beach area with the sun beds arranged on the slopes above it. Not great when you have a young child. We tended to use the public beach instead. However, this comes at a cost of 18 euros for two sun beds per day. There are signs saying you cannot put towels on the beach however we and many others did at no cost. Not sure whether this would be the case in peak season.

The food was good and plentiful but on the same theme everyday so may get boring if you are there for two weeks. Typical menu consisted of salad buffet followed by a choice of two salads/soup followed by a choice of risotto, pasta, soup, fish dish followed by a choice of four main courses usually fish, meat dish or omelette followed by deserts and cheese. Don't expect any kids menu luckily our little boy will eat almost anything.

Walking out of the hotel is a large pedestrain area which is overlooked by cafes and restuarants. This was great as we could have a drink while our little boy played safely and in sight. Beware if going mid september as we did as not everything is open. Our brochure made Baia Sardinia sound much larger than it is so although a great relaxing holiday there is not much to see and do if wet.

“The Hotel Manager Swears at Guests”

Our Honeymoon in Sardinia was overall very pleasant and the staff at the hotel were polite and generally friendly, albeit with little time for any conversation. On the last night of our stay, the rainfall at the resort was particularly heavy (it had rained earlier in the week). On this occasion, we noticed as were getting ready for our evening meal that water had started to drip through the ceiling. There was no hotel information in the room (including how to dial reception) and therefore, after several attempts at trying to phone reception, we had no option but to start moving the hotel’s furniture around the room in order to prevent damage from the dripping water. We were however unable to move the sofa for lack of additional space. We also placed towels and bins in appropriate places to mop up/catch the water but could not prevent it from running down the walls into the electric power sockets.

En-route to the dining room, we advised reception that this had occurred and they said they would go and have a look whilst we were dining. They did offer to move us to another room but we declined, as the bed was dry and that for one night, it didn’t inconvenience us. However, we asked if we could keep the room for a few extra hours (check-out time was 10am) as we had been unable to pack because we had been moving their furniture in order to prevent damage. We were advised to come back and speak with them in the morning. Upon returning to the room that night, it was clear that nobody had been as everything was still wet and as we left it before dinner.

The following morning, we returned to reception before breakfast and spoke to the General Manager and Head Concierge – Nico. We advised him that nobody had been to our room and proceeded to explain to him the extent of the leak. He replied by suggesting that moving furniture and mopping the water was not reason enough to want to keep the room beyond the standard checkout time but that we could keep the room if we pay a full-days rate. I am not sure of the logic of being able to charge us to keep a room when the hotel is fully booked. He also advised us that it was not his job to ‘mop up bedrooms’. We pointed out to him that whether that was true or not, it certainly is not the job of a paying guest of the hotel.

We tried to reason with him to advise him that the room was uninhabitable because it was still wet with water in the electrics and that a paying guest would complain if they were given a wet room to sleep in. He then prompted to say that they had checked the room and it was perfectly fine. I then suggested that he was being less than truthful at which point he pointed at me and shouted ‘I will sue you’.

Realising this discussion was not progressing, my wife asked him to call our rep so that we could sort this out to which he responded, ‘No. You call her. Why should I?’. When I pointed out to him how unhelpful he was being, he responded by shouting, in full view of other guests who were in the reception area, ‘YOU ARE [-]’ He then walked around from behind the desk and shouted the same obscenity at me again and menacingly jabbed his finger in my direction before walking outside. It was only the intervention from one of his colleagues that allowed for the situation to be resolved.

I can honestly say that our honeymoon memory was wiped away in an instant and although the setting is beutiful Nico managed to persuade us that we won't be recommending this place.

“Fawlty Towers”

If you are thinking of staying here - don't do it! Most of the hotel facilities were closed and not as advertised. Our room was ok & clean, although others we know of were flooded when the rain started. Only 1 restaurant & bar were open, so no selection as advertised (everything had been put away as if the season had finished). The food & service in the restaurant were awful. When the buffet aspects (salad & dessert) were finished, these were not replenished, so if you missed them, tough! The served aspects, were cold & burnt & even if you were first in the restaurant, others were on their desert when you were still waiting on your main course. There was a hair in the food incident, no apology was given & we then refused to eat the hotel food as it was so bad & the hygiene obviously not up to scratch. No apology was given for this and was told that it was probably my own hair (definitely wasn't as colour & type were not mine) We had friends who's room was flooded on the last night, the hotel did not provide any assistance to clear up the room & when asking for extra time the next day so they could pack were told they'd have to pay for it, which then lead to a heated discussion, resulting in the manager swearing repeatedly to the guest. Not what I'd expect from a 4* hotel! Definitely would not recommend this hotel or Sardinia to anyone else for a holiday.

  • Liked — The sea view from our room.
  • Disliked — The restaurant - truly awful!

“Certainly not worth the money..........”

It is really quite simple. Do not go to this hotel. Far too expensive for what they offer:

Rooms - acceptable
Food - breakfast poor - dinner OK if they stop serving cold dishes and stale fish
Service restaurant - waiters fine, but head waiter a disaster. I have never in my life seen a head waiter fighting with guests over a table. And that twice in one night with two different groups. Fawlty towers was a joke compared to this manifestation of lack of customer service.
Service reception - BAD. One day I have been waiting 15 minutes for my room key. Especially the concierge is keen on NOT helping guests and overcharging fuel when returning Vespa's. We had to wait over an hour for our luggage when we left, they were not willing or able to arrange pickup of our luggage.
Beach - bring your windbreaker and water shoes. And there are no 'rich pasta's and salads' as stated on the website. Cold paella if you are lucky...

We have been to Italy many times and certainly know what Italian service is about. But this was just very very poor and far too expensive. I really have to say that I do not buy the excellent reviews of other reviewers.

What a lovely place! My room overlooked the sea and was quite large with a balcony. It was kept very clean and the light blue bed covers are adorable! Recepetion went out of their way to accomodate any of my requests. They helped with travel to other places in Italy and offered to arrange everything.

The restaurant was outstanding. Daniele and Guilio are 2 of the most professional and freindly people I have met while traveling. They treat all the guests with the utmost respect and courtesy. I especially liked Daniele´s humor and friendly smile as he visited and spent time with each guest at every table. They really go out of their way to make you feel welcomed.

The hotel is located within seconds of the beach and has a private deck. Walk around the hotel to find many other places to sun. The piazza is loaded with cafes and restaurants as well as shops for souveniers and basic items.

Overall I will have to say that this is a remarkable hotel with a very freindly staff. If you are fortunate enough visit one of the most beautiful places in Italy, stay at Club Hotel in Baja. You won´t regret it.
