Booked my hotel throgh expedia so thought that it would be nice. They seemed to stick all the english in one area of the hotel!! The staff were rude even in the restaurant one night we were paying London prices a lot of Italian people came in and they served them before us!! I ended up walking out that was the only time they noticed us!! Told the manager am not used to this service in London and he tried to argue with me!! Also had a massage in the beauty place to have a man giggling and being stupid!! the hotel is bad stay away not a 5 star more of a three star!!

“Fantastic”

Fantasic hotel in perfect location. A luxury stay, lovely pool, incredibly friendly staff, ignore other reviews they say they aren't.

Great views of the Poltu Quatu Marina and the restaurants here are fabulous. Poltu Quatu really is a hidden gem and I'd say the best part of northern Sardinia. Our Deluxe room was as its title suggests.

Only downsides were the showers needed running for 10 mins before they reached normal temperatures, otherwise you had boiling hot water. We were offered another room to compensate however.

We were also promised a free weeks car hire and parking as part of our room rate. On arrival we were told this car was only a 2 seater and therefore as we were 3 (baby) we would need to pay the upgrade of 45 euros a day. It would have therefore been cheaper for us to hire a car at the airport and also have saved on the taxis to and from the airport (£40 each way). The management had also promised before our arrival that a baby seat would fit in the free hire car they were offering us but denied this on our arrival.

Also the food and drinks were an absolute rip off, 2 bottled beers £12 and the wine they charge at £30 a bottle can be bought for £3 in the local supermarket down the road. The food was average compared to some of the cheaper more rustic restaurants near Poltu Quatu. That said the breakfast was very good and we obviously chose to eat other meals at more reasonably priced places. I have to say I was horrified to be charged £100 (2 people) for a bbq lunch buffet on our arrival which consisted of 1 piece of meat and fish and as much dry salad and pasta as you could eat as well as £10 for a plate of chips. Ask to see the menu and prices before you help yourself!!

The quality of the food in the Poltu Quatu restaurants were excellent and there were 2 fabulous terrace bars overlooking the marina that were also reasonably priced.

Sardinia is a fantastic place for young families. The Sardinians were incredibly friendly and helpful and the whole island had a peace and tranquility that we both thouroughly enjoyed.

Overall l would definately recommend Melia Poltu Qultu for the luxury and its perfect location. Just eat and drink elsewhere. I would also say its competitors such as Hotel La Rocca and Grand Smeralda Beach Hotel (both offered us the same priced holiday) looked distinctly average in comparison.

Melia Poltu Quatu offers fantastic discounted rates on their rooms but definately try to make their money within the hotel. I would however go again. Definately an overall winner

“Beautiful Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 September 2006

We have just returned from 6 nights at the Melia hotel and I have to say we had a fabulous time. We booked a standard room but on arrival they upgraded us to a pool view room which was really nice. The rooms are spacious. The pool is simply lovely (although a little cold!!) and there are enough sunbeds for everyone. The hotel staff were all very polite. We didnt have breaskfast included so I can't comment on that aspect.

We hired a car as there isnt that much to see in Poltu Quatu and there is a car park (which is free) just outside the hotel. Although you can walk down from the hotel to the marina where there are some nice restaurants, I must recommend you visit Baia Sardinia for the best pizzas in town!! (and a lovely beach).

Would definitely stay here again!!!

“Fantastic”

This hotel was absolutely fantastic. We booked it with Expedia and got it for a very good price, the write up said 5 star and I have to say it was. We had a standard room which was huge and beautifully furnished very chic and italian. The pool was lovely with plenty of loungers. It was on a marina with the most lovely boats so it was lovely to walk arouund there in the evening.

As it was five star it was very expensive to eat and drink but just up the road at a resort called the Baia Sardinia there were plenty of restaurants and bars to go into with a more reasonable price.

There is no beach there as such but as there are loads of beaches in this area it was not a problem to drive to one within a few minutes.

Overall I would definetely recommend this hote. l

“a nice hotel, terrible management”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 August 2006

We knew this hotel and area was expensive, but this was our choice to enjoy a more exclusive holiday, we have visited the island before.

However this is not a 5 star hotel, apart from the prices, our shower flooded the bathroom every night.

Their where 3 polite staff in the whole hotel, the female pool life guard, a Romanian trainee, and a young bar man.
The rest of the staff treated any non Italian, especially not carrying a LV handbag as rif-raf that really are just an inconvience, and should not be there.

It is the first time in my life I wanted to show someone my bank statements everytime I bought a drink, and I was sorry I left my designer handbag collection at home, here I could have proved to my husband it is worth the money.

The worst offender is the manager, and the Female manager of the restaurant. As we have a 10 year old who is a fussy eater, we booked half board, every time we arrived for dinner she ushered us to a table just outside the main area, she then shoved a half board menu in our face which had a couple of choices on it, very poor choice considering the cost of half board.
I then decided to look at the main menu to see if we could find something we liked, and she started telling our Waiter in Italian, that we must not look at this, i then pointed out very firmly that we could afford to pay for the other menu if we wished to, having understood her Italian, she then did not even apologise but stormed off.
This must have been a lot of guest experience, because both the restaurant and bar where empty most evenings. Aslo may be prices higher than Claridges.

We had also hired a car for the two weeks, we booked hotel parking at 25 euro a day, these cars where parked by the in house Just Business company, who then damaged our renal car but would not accept responsibility. We at checkout were presented with a bill for 40 euro a day, when I enquired why this was I was told it was more expensive because we had a mercedes car and they needed insurance, I then said this was good they could pay for our damage from the Insurance, the two people on the desk then suddenly could not speak any English. As we needed to go to meet our flight we gave up and paid.

To top all of this for the first week of our holiday the President of Tunisia was staying at the hotel with most of the boyguardsthey stopped us walking in certain areas, and I did not feel comfortable with my 10 year old walking around all these nervous guys with guns. The management offered no apology, but these guys must have had their designer gun bags.

I am a Director of a UK plc, my husband of a Global Company, we are also a bilingual family, we both travel all over the world, and I have never been so appalled by service, rudeness, and such an transparent rip off attitude.
I am writing to Melia direct to raise my points, be an interesting answer.

This is a nice looking hotel, in a fab area, run by terrible management.
If you can ignore the rudeness, and rip off, go, but my advise would be to go to the le Meridien or Forte resort on the island, I have been to both, and they could not be more of a contrast.
Or go but take a couple of WAGS and their handbags.
