Stayed here for 3 nights in late August 2006 with girlfriend and various relatives.
Had a double room which overlooked the car park which was lovely and quiet and probably had the best views! Rooms were spacious and clean with a big bed and good sized bathroom (shower only which suited us). Everything clean. Air con not brilliant. Continental breakfast included (cheese, ham, pastries, croissants and toast etc.)
This is what I would class as an well looked after European 3*, clean, spacious and with all the necessary facilities. Staff very helpful though not often cheerful.
Best bit - all the above for GBP £60 per room per night. You just can't beat that.
Worst bit - 10 minute walk to the city wall which means add on a further ten minutes uphill to the Duomo or round the side to the train station and centre of town, although there are some restaurants just inside the city wall. We did not try it but the hotel restaurant looked very good and quite upmarket.
If you can live with the walk (or have a person willing to drive), I would definitely recommend this hotel.
If not, and on a budget, the Hotel Continentale is much better placed for the train station (2 minutes) and is in the centre of the town, though probably noisier as a result as that Piazza gets a fair bit of traffic.
