We were scheduled to stay at the Akrabello for two nights, but pulled out after staying (reluctantly) for only one. To capture the atmosphere in one word, I would use "depressing." We were given a choice of two rooms. Both were large, bare and unattractive, devoid of any decoration or warmth. Built-in cheap wooden furniture, painted dark green with the paint badly chipped. Same with all doors and hallway paneling. Why can't they at least (1) choose an attractive paint color, and (2) keep it fresh? The bed was uncomfortable. The bathroom was dingy to say the least -- dirty plastic shower curtain hanging from a sagging curtain rod, single light bulb dangling from a ceiling cord. The carpeting in the hallways was of the cheapest imaginable quality, and badly worn and soiled at that. This was easily the worst hotel we stayed at out of five in Sicily, all selected after reading TripAdvisor reviews. (The rest were great!! See reviews for Taormina, Siracusa, Marsala and Palermo.)
