My husband and I were looking for a quiet place away from all the touristy sites in Italy. We had never visited the Piedmont region before, and since we are wine buffs, this seemed like the perfect fit. The trick was finding a place to stay that wasn't a ordinary "blah" hotel or a hovel. The Baur B & B was a gem in the vine-filled countryside!
Diana and Micha made us feel at home from the moment we arrived. The rooms are very well appointed, with free wi-fi, TV (which we never turned on!), complementary wine and bottled water, plush bath robes and gourmet breakfasts that definitely deserve 5 stars! The pool was a bit chilly in late September, but it was lovely just to sit back and soak in the sunshine.
Diana hosted a very tasty cooking class one evening where we got to partake of our foodie creations on the patio just as the sun was setting. Lovely! Also, Micha took us on a full day tour of a few of the local wineries where we got to see the workings behind some of the smaller, high quality producers in the area.
The only slight drawback is that you will definitely need a rental car. The B & B is located in the hills on the edge of Acqui Terme and it is best to drive into town for lunches and dinners. We did try walking into town one evening, but it was a rather risky endeavor with the narrow roads and the speedy drivers!
