“Ah, Bella Piemonte!”

My husband and I were looking for a quiet place away from all the touristy sites in Italy. We had never visited the Piedmont region before, and since we are wine buffs, this seemed like the perfect fit. The trick was finding a place to stay that wasn't a ordinary "blah" hotel or a hovel. The Baur B & B was a gem in the vine-filled countryside!

Diana and Micha made us feel at home from the moment we arrived. The rooms are very well appointed, with free wi-fi, TV (which we never turned on!), complementary wine and bottled water, plush bath robes and gourmet breakfasts that definitely deserve 5 stars! The pool was a bit chilly in late September, but it was lovely just to sit back and soak in the sunshine.

Diana hosted a very tasty cooking class one evening where we got to partake of our foodie creations on the patio just as the sun was setting. Lovely! Also, Micha took us on a full day tour of a few of the local wineries where we got to see the workings behind some of the smaller, high quality producers in the area.

The only slight drawback is that you will definitely need a rental car. The B & B is located in the hills on the edge of Acqui Terme and it is best to drive into town for lunches and dinners. We did try walking into town one evening, but it was a rather risky endeavor with the narrow roads and the speedy drivers!

Room Tip: The photos of the rooms on the B & B website represent the rooms perfectly!

“Serenity in Italy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2011

Italy is revered and respected as a country with amazing food, quality wines, and an ease of style. This kind of respect didn’t just happen, it was earned through years and years of traditions and hard work yet it appears to the traveler as if it just how life should be and we leave Italy wondering “Why can’t our own lives be like this, it seems easy enough”
I’ve been to Italy numerous times and seen different regions and experience the above each and every time but my latest trip was this experience x 10. We were lucky enough to stay at The Baur B&B, a serene piece of paradise just outside of Acqui Terme. The photos on their website don’t do this place justice and I cannot stress this enough! Diana and Micha Baur have created a seemingly effortless,(but they work hard to make it that way!) colorful, creative, tranquil, oasis on their hillside in Piemonte. The views of the countryside are splendid; the property itself is a constant work of art and instills a sense of wonder and a rush of creative spirit within the visitor. Then of course, there is the food, and the rooms with real linen sheets, the most comfortable beds, and perfect, full bath towels, and the accoutrements (luxury soaps and shampoos, mini bar, more cable TV then you would ever need) and the again, the food, and oh yes, the cannot-mention-it-enough food is served on handmade pottery from Diana’s own studio. A sample breakfast, homemade focaccia with local honey glazed over the top and on top of that, sliced plums and figs fresh from their tree. Add a bowl of yogurt with fruit and piping hot coffee complete with steamed milk and you have a nice full tummy ready to start the day exploring the local vineyards with Micha as your guide. His knowledge and enthusiasm for wine is catching and the wines themselves are to die for! Of course wine tasting is only part of the experience in Italy and with the location of the Baur B&B in the heart of Piemonte, it is essential to get out and explore!

“A gorgeous respite in the hills”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 September 2011

The only thing that has changed since our initial stay (and review) here three years ago is that hosts Diana and Micha have added a third stunningly beautiful room.

This B&B is really a treasure. Each of the three guest rooms is such a pleasure: large, beautiful appointed, with spacious modern bathrooms, big, comfortable beds, and lovely amenities. Diana's attention to each detail within the rooms is amazing. Actually, this loving care and artistic eye is evident in every aspect of this little piece of paradise. It's the creativity, above all, that distinguishes Baur B&B from everyplace else.

We felt our hosts devoted themselves to making us happy. The breakfasts were enormous, and created each day from what is fresh locally by Diana's loving hands--far beyond your standard Italian B&B fare. Their recommendations of restaurants and day-trips were spot-on. And, of course, we availed ourselves daily of the terrific house wine and lovely swimming pool that are just part of the package here.

Waking up in the country listening to the birds singing or watching the moon set, but still being just 5 minutes from a great little city, Acqui Terme--it's a pretty great balance, one we haven't found elsewhere in Italy. This is resort-style living at an astonishingly reasonable price.

Thanks again, Diana, Micha, and Max.

“3 days of living in a dream”

Words cannot express the experience that we had at Baur B & B. As stressed out New Yorkers, we were looking for the perfect escape - and thank god we found this gem! Even before we arrived we knew this place was going to be extra special, as Diana was so accommodating with many back and forth emails in helping us arrange wine trips with her husband (who is the BEST!), as well as accommodating my "semi-vegan" diet. Their love of their B&B, the town of Acqui Terme (and it's many great restaurants), and Piemonte in general was evident upon arrival. The room was beautiful, comfortable, and no detail was overlooked. It truly was better than any upscale hotel we've ever stayed in.
And then there are the amazing wine tours. Micha's wine tours are beyond special. He offers you experiences that you CANNOT replicate on your own. His personal relationships with vineyards and his passion and knowledge of the surrounding wine regions are extensive. We felt like we were caught in a real life travel show during our excursions, from hopping into the back of a vineyard owner's Land Rover and touring the property, to walking through cantinas older than the country we live in, our experiences were unbelievable.
And then there was the food. The breakfasts were carefully presented on Diana’s beautiful handmade dishes and the food was homemade and delicious. We could not have asked or expected anything more than what we received. The ingredients were fresh and local (honey accompanying the goat cheese one morning was obtained from their neighbor) and each morning there was something new to savour.
If you are planning on going to Piemonte, do yourself a favor and stay at Baur B&B and take advantage of the wine tours offered. You will not be disappointed. We are already planning another trip to stay at their B&B.

“What a Relief!”

Just outside of Acqui Terme, found only via GPS and through an unpromising, narrow street, across the railroad tracks, and up a steep, twisty gravel driveway lies this perfectly quiet, warm, unassuming, centuries-old farmhouse/ bed and breakfast whose proprietors, the multi-cultural, multi- lingual, and super-knowledgeable Diana and Mischa dish out an ideal measure of dining, wine-tasting, and sight seeing advice and great conversation along with tasty breakfasts of freshly squeezed fruit juices, bread baked on site, fruit jams, and frittatas containing whatever strikes Diana's fancy on a given morning. A daily wine allowance of two free bottles, swimming pool, and very comfortable and attractive rooms made Baur the perfect last stop for us after a too hectic and wild three weeks through Florence, Siena, Milan, and Lake Como; While Diana and Mischa are almost apologetic about their place being a work-in progress, this inn, in its current state, captures the essence of Piemonte in general-- mellow, solid, and beautiful.
