Italy is revered and respected as a country with amazing food, quality wines, and an ease of style. This kind of respect didn’t just happen, it was earned through years and years of traditions and hard work yet it appears to the traveler as if it just how life should be and we leave Italy wondering “Why can’t our own lives be like this, it seems easy enough”
I’ve been to Italy numerous times and seen different regions and experience the above each and every time but my latest trip was this experience x 10. We were lucky enough to stay at The Baur B&B, a serene piece of paradise just outside of Acqui Terme. The photos on their website don’t do this place justice and I cannot stress this enough! Diana and Micha Baur have created a seemingly effortless,(but they work hard to make it that way!) colorful, creative, tranquil, oasis on their hillside in Piemonte. The views of the countryside are splendid; the property itself is a constant work of art and instills a sense of wonder and a rush of creative spirit within the visitor. Then of course, there is the food, and the rooms with real linen sheets, the most comfortable beds, and perfect, full bath towels, and the accoutrements (luxury soaps and shampoos, mini bar, more cable TV then you would ever need) and the again, the food, and oh yes, the cannot-mention-it-enough food is served on handmade pottery from Diana’s own studio. A sample breakfast, homemade focaccia with local honey glazed over the top and on top of that, sliced plums and figs fresh from their tree. Add a bowl of yogurt with fruit and piping hot coffee complete with steamed milk and you have a nice full tummy ready to start the day exploring the local vineyards with Micha as your guide. His knowledge and enthusiasm for wine is catching and the wines themselves are to die for! Of course wine tasting is only part of the experience in Italy and with the location of the Baur B&B in the heart of Piemonte, it is essential to get out and explore!
