“Great Hotel - Wonderful Service - Value for Money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 July 2011

This is a high quality hotel in all respects. We were on an overnight stay and this hotel was great - right by the motorway with plenty of free parking.

The hotel itself is modern and our room was very spacious, clean and well appointed (there were 3 of us) . All the staff, from check-in to dining to breakfast to check-out, were absolutely wonderful - extremely welcoming, helpful, attentive and friendly.

We dined in the restaurant and the food was of a high standard - very yummy!

We chose this hotel based on price, location, and traveller reviews - for us this hotel presented incredible value for money and exceeded our expectations.

As we stayed mid-week there were quite a few people staying on business which I can see is probably their core business given location and facilities, but for a stopover it is excellent. I would stay again and recommend for this purpose.

I have to agree with a previous review that perhaps WiFi access should be complimentary, as most 4 star (if not all??) hotels these days provide this service as a matter of course. Having said that the cost of the WiFi is not much, EUR 5.00 for 24 hrs - but still.

Also, even though the restaurant food is outstanding I'm not sure what you'd do if you were staying at the weekend (we stayed 1 night mid-week), as apparently the restaurant is closed on Sat & Sun and I'm pretty sure you'd have to drive somewhere to eat as the hotel is somewhat isolated - although possibly the hotel is able to assist with weekend dining arrangements.

Both points listed above (WiFi and Restaurant) are specified on the listing and so bear no surprise.

A couple of minor points and perhaps I'm being a bit picky: Although our room was spacious, clean and well appointed, certain aspects of the bathroom didn't quite fit with the overall presentation of the hotel/room - namely the shower (silicon a bit grimy) and toilet seat (worn). Definitely not a biggie but more a surprise given, as mentioned, the feel and presentation of the rest of the hotel was to a high standard.

Also, as we had arrived mid afternoon it would have been nice to go for a walk before dinner but apart from walking around the perimeter of the hotel (which we did - twice!) there isn't really anywhere to go as the hotel is flanked by the motorway on one side and a busy road on the other side.

Even so, a wonderful hotel to stay at with amazing service and great value for money.

“Duty Manager Let Us Down”

We found this hotel purely by chance as we came off the motorway looking for somewhere to stay and eat ffor the night. We were travelling to Greece on a touring motorcycle. It was very hot and we looked wrecked when we arrived. I saw the Manager glare out of the hotel window at me and then disappear. The reception staff were very welcoming, but my husband saw the manager sneering at us from behind the scenes - or saw the Manager thought. At 63 and 53 we are hardly Hells Angels and this left a nasty taste in our mouth. Having said that the rooms were good with air con and we ate the tourist menu in the restuarant at 25 euros for three courses, coffee and half a litre of house wine. This was very good, but the restaurant staff were fairly cold and standoffish. Breakfast was adquate, but at 144 euros for a stopover, we found it too expensive. We probably would have stopped at this hotel on the way back had it not been for the rude manager. And just a footnote to him. Never judge a book on it's cover!

“Wonderful surprise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 August 2010

We were referred to this hotel by another hotel in town because we were looking for a quad room. What a delightful surprise! The young man at the desk was most genial and spoke great English. The room was super--King-size bed and two twin-size, large bathroom, reasonably priced internet--only thing was lack of sound-proofing in bathroom. Breakfast was terrific, many choices, delicious fruit salad and other fruits, granola, breads, pastries, cheeses...Couldn't have done better.

“What a real joy to be in Italy after the arrogance of France”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 July 2010

My wife and I drive to and from Italy at least once every year, and Alessandria is within a convenient stopover area for a night, having already spent a night at le Dracy, in France. The Al Mulino is very close to the motorway, and we did not expect much. However, for a very modest outlay, we were treated to a high level of service and friendliness, in a professional and efficient atmosphere. Even the food was adequate and well prepared.
Although the surrounding area is not at all glamorous, we shall certainly stay again next year. The hospitality here, without any obsequiousness, put France to shame!
