“Warning: construction work goin on”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2011

Although I was not the guest of the hotel (we live nearby), I just want to flag that there has been an expansion project going on now for several months, and it is quite loud: they are building a 6-7 floor building on the adjacent plot, and they start working on the site at 7am every morning. So if you wish to have a quiet holiday, and plan to stay in bed after 7pm, forget Ramee. We are living about 200m away, and occasionally even we wake up for the noise. I would not want to imagine how loud it can be when it is just next to your room.
It is, however, temporary: I am sure once they finish the work it will be back to normal.

“The food was probably its strongest point”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2010

The plus points...The hotel has an impressive reception area and whilst the rooms aren't the largest, they are adequately sized with comfortable beds. There are a few restaurants under the hotel's roof: one an American themed place with acceptable food, although a not particularly pleasant atmosphere, and the other serving north Indian cuisine which was tasty. Breakfast was served in the indian restaurant and there was good variety.

The negatives...It's noisy at night as you can hear the indian music from the restaurant as it reverberates around the inner courtyard. The service was not particularly good: we had a few problems with our room and in spite of requesting various items numerous times, nothing ever materialised during the two nights we were there. Whilst our room was clean, others in our party were not at all happy with the standard and cleanliness of theirs, suggesting some variety in standard.

Whilst the stay here was OK, I suspect there are probably better places to stay in the area.

“Extremely Offended”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 August 2010

I once stayed at Ramee Qurum for 5 weeks when I first moved to Oman. It is a 3 star (barely) hotel.
We would have business meetings in the lobby, and we would have to choose our seats carefully as the ceiling leaked. It was either the air conditioning or the pool. Absolutely no attempt was made over our five weeks there, to fix the problem.
The gym and pool area are a disgrace. The gym is never cleaned, and there is no attendant. The pool area could do with some shade.
The restaurants are quite good, and are very reasonably priced. The service is, as with most places in the Middle East, very friendly but not efficient, with each staff member having their own service standards.
The rooms are big enough to be comfortable for the business traveller. The satellite TV system is set up illegally, and is subject to numbered codes flashing on the screen every so often, and a particular channel may not be available from one day to the next.
Internet charges are ridiculously overpriced. Wireless reception in the rooms is very poor.
Taxi Drivers hang around the entrance to the hotel and charge at least twice the going rate for any job.
There is a night club attached to the hotel. This night club allows Muslims to purchase alcohol. I'll not go into the cultural / religious issues here. Unfortunately if you have been allocated a room above the nightclub, you will be unable to get any sleep, as there is a rock band six nights a week.
On one occasion I stayed there with my wife. I booked online and when we arrived, found the price was going to be more than quoted. I argued the point and received a discounted upgrade to a very nice suite.

At 1.30 am I was rung by reception and asked to produce my partner's passport, and if the "woman in my room was in my wife" !!!!!!!!!
Can you believe that? Reception had not said a thing when we checked in together, and already had a copy of her passport, but waited until the early hours of the morning to impose their religious views upon us!!!!! I stormed into reception and gave them a blast they will never forget, and that will be the last time I stay at the Ramee Guestline Qurum.

“Value for money, very nice people, aged hotel!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 April 2010

I am just back from a 3 night stay at the Ramee Guestline Hotel Qurum. Firstly don't choose this hotel if you don't drive as it is awkwardly located in Qurum area where you can be at ransom to the hotel taxi drivers who fleece you of money even on short distances. Ramee Qurum has been my choice of hotel for various reasons. First of all, I got an excellent rate of OMR 40 per night including breakfast and taxes which is very attractive compared to other hotels in Muscat and these other hotels could be very shady. I always drive around in Muscat hence this hotel is very suitable for me.

Ramee offers well maintained rooms, however they look a big aged. The rooms I have stayed in at all times, including this stay of mine have been prim and proper with an LCD TV with a range of TV channels, tea & coffee making facilities, en-suite bathroom with a shower tub etc. The checkin is superb and they offer a welcome drink and cold tower for every guest. Generally the service is very cordial.

The rooms have WiFi internet available which is priced exorbitantly at 1 OMR (0.385 USD) per hour. I have used this in the past, but I suggest if you can buy a USB 3G modem from outside Oman and buy a local Omantel simcard, then you can activate a 3 day unlimited internet package for just 3 OMR (1.16 USD) which is highly cost effective and could be used anywhere in Oman. Considering that Omantel has the best 3G network coverage you can never be without internet and avoid paying the hotel this exorbitant charge. Interestingly if you stay in the rooms towards the east of the hotel you may pick up some residential unsecured WiFI connections.

My room was made up every day with towels changed as well. I have always been impressed with the house keeping service. The front office staff have always been very helpful in all ways, probably because am a frequent visitor to their hotel. Zarina - the day time front office receptionist is really the best and always accommodates my requests for late checkout until even 6 pm. The evening staff though are powerless in this, even though they try their best.

Food options in the hotel are plenty -- American food at the Rock Bottom Cafe (which is also a night club) is mouth watering. Besides this they have the Kerala food restaurant and Indian one called Mirchi. I prefer room service when I stay here as I feel lazy to go down to the restaurants. If I am in a mood then I drive to the nearby Capital Commercial Centre.

The breakfast at the hotel is quite good and includes a variety of Continental, American and Indian items besides fruits and fresh juices. I have to say it is really worth the price of the stay + breakfast. A live cooking station prepares fresh eggs in any style you want.

My complaint about this stay was primarily the A/c malfunctioned and even though it was switched off the room was extremely chilly. Secondly I took the room towards the east of the hotel (side) and there was some construction happening which started right from 6 am in the morning and could be a big disturbance if you are a light sleeper.

Besides this the concierge service is really poor. On couple of occasions when I drove to the hotel, there was no one to help with with the baggage and I had to offload my bags myself, checkin and go back and park my car. On one occasion a staff volunteered to park my car for me.

The gym is in a bad condition and the treadmill was not working on this visit. There is no dedicated gym attendant and the room service people tried to help, but weren't aware as to what happened to the treadmill. Limited gym equipment.

Overall, Ramee offers you value for money and delivers much more than what you paid for. You cant expect the same service at Ramada or Intercontinental, but Ramee will be my choice of hotel in Muscat for a variety of reasons.

“Great Hotel - Rude Receptionist”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 April 2010

The hotel is in a nice location, only a few minutes walk to the Qurum beach. There's some construction going on right now, so it's a little noisy now and then. I had no problems with the noise from the Rock Bottom Cafe & Club - but I specifically requested a room on the 5th floor. The room was decent size for a single traveler, and the breakfast was good. My only complaint about the hotel is the night receptionist. I was stopping by the room with a friend to download photos and grab a jacket, and was repeatedly harassed by one of the night receptionists - both at the counter as well as by phone to my room. I complained to the manager who apologized, but the receptionist continued to be rude. Overall experience with the hotel was good, just beware of the night staff!
