“Wish we had stayed longer”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

I loved this hotel stay from beginning to end- although I wish it had been a lot longer. We arrived late at night (the 1 hour drive from DPS to the hotel seemed like ages as we had just come from the Amanjiwo in Java). In addition to our customary welcome drink we also received a welcome chicken pie! That was something I had experienced before and did not expect. It was delicious too!.

Our room and bathroom were sizeable, but the best part was the pool and patio area. The small covered area has a table and chairs, and ice cold water (that is set up at 3am in the morning, when the lamps are blown out- almost died of a heart attack when I saw a shape move past the windor). The pool is large enough for laps and room Nr5 was private enough that we couldn't see anybody and they couldn't see us. We had a partial view of the rice fields below. As one other reviewer commented it is a shame that the lounge chairs can't be moved to the shade as I image that it gets very hot there during the day. We were out and about, so it didn't matter.

The room can be opened up completely, so that the space feels even larger. The furniture is not overly modern, but then that wouldn't suit the style of the hotel. Everything is in muted wooden and natural tones. We did have a tv, but we didn't use it.

I was very suprised that one of the other reviewers gave the Amandari 1 star- but without any comments it was hard to identify what the issues were. I enjoyed my stay here.

“Will give your spirit peace too”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

Wonderful on every level, friendly reception on arrival, excellent service and serenity pure. Spent 2 nights in January 2012 and made ample use of the spa facilities. Villa resort with 2-storey villas which give a real feel of Balinese culture. Service was superb as one would expect at an Aman resort, but over and above it leaves you with a real feeling of inner peace, I simply didn't want to leave. Found the children's dance troupe and possibility of watching them practice every afternoon a novel idea and enjoyed their performance immensely.

“Best place to stay in Central Bali”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 December 2011

We stayed at the Amandari in July 2011 and it vastly exceeded our expectations. It is an oasis of serenity and beauty that will live in our minds forever. The hotel staff went our of its way to arrange interesting activities and experiences. Our three most memorable experiences were as follows:

1. The authentic Bali dancers and musicians performing the traditional Bali dances at the hotel one night. It was so beautiful it was like magic.

2. Walking the rice fields. You have not seen Bali if you have not done this.

3. The white water rafting in the river that goes by right in front of the hotel, and at the end you walk up the rice fields to get back to your room. Suitable and not too scary for our seven year old daughter.

We have stayed at a number o the Aman resorts, which are all beautiful, but this one really stands out both in its architecture, the grounds, and the feeling of the place, plus its wonderful staff. We would recommend a minimum three night stay.

Room Tip: All the rooms have a great view

“Spirited away”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 December 2011

Reminded me a bit of the animated film, like a peek into a surreal parallel world. The setting is in a local village and almost feels like your living in a temple itself, actually I think it is a temple of some sort as the village use a part of it for their celebrations and the annual birthday of the temple was the day we arrived so It certainly added to the vibe. Out of all the Amans in Bali this place gives the most authentic traditional Balinese experience. The spa was very nice, the pool beautiful, the local activities and food outstanding. I would recommend cycling around the area with a guide if you do only one thing while there.
I think comments about the place being dated are kind of missing the point, having a shiny new room in amongst this ancient spiritual setting wouldn't have the same kind of impact. it's the sort of place you wouldn't mind staying with no aircon and the doors wide open to the sounds of the night, the slightly aged wooden finishing just makes it feel more authentic if you ask me.
