“A must not if you are looking for a nice hotel.”

We arrived at Smuggler's Cove on the Friday night. We had planed a trip to the resort with some friends but 5 of us came in one taxi and the other 2 came in another. So the 2 people arrived before we did and the staff wouldn't let them go their rooms or collect their bags uqntils we had all arrived !
And by the time we got to the rooms they were awful. First of all the rooms hadn't been finished renovating ! There were gas pipes and tools in the bathroom and the room had only recently been painted and it smelt awfull. Plus we had booked a room for 3 People and there was only one bed ! We ended up waiting for at least 5 hours in the management office for someone to do something about our unlivable rooms ! In the end, our company that we had boked with sent us to a muuuuuuch nicer hotel. But we strongly discredit Smuggler's Cove.

“Great resort, but I wish it was better.”

A wrote a long review but it all got lost in a crash so I'll just abbreviate it again here:

Pros: Resort is fantastic. Great water sports. Lots of excursions. Definitely do the sailing lessons! Somehow so many of the resort staff remembered our names and room number! Cafe Asian was very good.

Cons: Poor food. Cafe Asia was great but everything else was sub par. Food portions are small at the a la carte restaurants. Room service was bad. They rarely change the sheets, only remake the bed. (I bled on the sheets and the blood stains stayed there for half a week.) They did not restock the shampoo/soap. Many resort workers were very friendly, but a small few were impatient and rude. The rooms were not very soundproof. You can hear your neighbors, the wind, and insects. House creeks at night so it can be a bit scary sometimes. Bring insect repellant and use liberally. Are shower tub leaked water and had ants walking around.

“Large Property with huge rooms”

Very big property so depending on your room you might have a little walk to the beach but hey you are on vacation so unless you have mobility issues that should not be a deterrent. Wi-fi only available in the lobby. Found it odd that there was no electric outlet or wash cloths in the bathroom:(. All 3 a la carte restaurants were excellent with the favourite being the Italian. Seafood has an excellent ambience being right on the beach. The buffet was not the greatest compared to Caribbean standards but decent enough. Enough restaurants and bars to keep you well fed and full. Overall, great hotel for relaxation or long walks. Small island so you will be able to do/see a lot outside of the hotel in a day or two.

“Really Pleasant stay”

A little late to write this review as we stayed 16-30th Septenber 2011. Nice time of year as the resort was about half full and thus we had easy bookings to all the a la carte restaurants most nights. Never a problem getting a beach front sun bed either. All staff were lovely and we made some very good friends during our stay. We love water skiing (and its all included here) and a special mention to Sherman and Dean at the water sports centre who did their upmost to make sure we had a great time. Clean 'hot' beach towles available there every day. Italian, oriental, and Seafood restaurants all great. Room was adequate but nothing special but it had what we needed and we are not ones to spend the day in it whilst we are away. The cove was nice and sheltered and as it just served this hotel was pretty private although the beaches are open to all. The local people were great fun. They seemed to bother some people but they were actually quite frendly when you got to talk to them and they often just came and sat for a chat and didn't bother trying to sell us anything after a few days. Coach ride from the airport was a bit of a long treck after a long journey but all worth it when you get there. We actually booked the helicoptor ride for the return trip and it was well worth the expense (£105 each) but book direct with the company and it will be cheaper so we found out afterwards. We booked through our rep. Friday night at local Gros Islet street party is a must. Don't pay to go with the rep, just go with a few others and book a taxi at reception .. only a few USDs and taxi driver is there wating at the end of the street to pick you up. A bit daunting to start with but get in a bar and sit down on a street table with a beer. (and grab some of the local food if you wish) and watch the party start ... we left about 11pm and it was fine.
The only disappointing bit of the holiday was when we left we were given a courtesy room that was in the middle of being renovated. It was filthy with no hot water and bare electrical wires hanging out the wall. If it hadn't been for this it would have had an excellant rating. We left feeling very annoyed. Hotel should not leave this leaving impression and seemed that no one cared when we complained at reception. We were told there were no other rooms available which we knew was rubbish as the place was half empty.
I had to write this review as I feel some of the reviews don''t quite reflect the ones who had a good time.. apart from our leaving experience of course.

“not very impressed!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

We have today returned from a 10 day holiday at Smugglers Cove resort and thought we would share our experiences- both good and bad.

My husband and I liked the location and thought the gardens were beautiful and well kept. Most staff we found were friendly but there were one or two exceptions especially in the Italian restaurant. We loved eating at the Cafe Asia and Waterside restaurant although the menu was limited. Overall we thought the resort was kept quite clean including our room but looked very tired.

Now for the bad bits.

We had no iron (although we had an ironing board) and no fridge even though there was a cupboard set up for one. Our room had a leak after a torrential rain storm but when we reported it all we got were towels to soak up the huge puddle! Our AC took two days to mend after several phone calls.

Every day we had a different quantity of towels with no hand towels, bath mat or face cloths on several occasions. Our shower and bath only had luke warm water.

As we were the furthest away from the pool/restaurants we asked for a shuttle to collect us one evening when it was raining. We ended up waiting 3/4 of an hour to be transported to the lobby although we were told one was on its way each time we called.

The jacuzzi by the pool was broken throughout our stay as was the one and only pool shower. The safety boat for the water sports kept on breaking down so all water sports had to be cancelled on numerous occasions.

When asked for a customer feedback form we were told they they did not have any but offered us a piece of ruled paper!

Room Tip: up grade to a larger room near to all the amenities
